Thread: Sandisk 64GB ZIF SSD in LE1700?

Default Sandisk 64GB ZIF SSD in LE1700?

I can't find our origional thread on the different SSD's that have been tried on the LE1700, so I am starting a new thread. Anyway, I have just hosed my second Kingspec drive. After having great performance from the disk and giving rather rave reviews of my first drive, it failed after 5 months (10-12 hours a day use) and the second one failed after 2.5 months of the same use. Both were replaced under warranty. The drives didn't totally die though, they just ran out of write cycles. I could still read from the disks when pulled from the tablet and put in a USB enclosure. So something was wrong with the controller software or bad run of chips. As such, I am a little leary of using that brand again in the LE1700.

My question: There is a guy selling Sandisk 1.8" 64 GB ZIF SSD's that would fit in the LE1700. He has a really good price, but I wanted to check here to see if anyone had tried the Sandisk ZIF drives in their LE1700 or LE1600 for that matter. Any experience reports would be helpful. If Sandisk doesn't work then a Photofast from DVnation.com is my next stop.

    Thanks.

It seems that the biggest issue is having the right connector since the LE1700 could come with a Hitachi or Toshiba connector. BTW, I bought a handful of the Toshiba connectors so if you need one, PM me.

My LE1700 is performing with a SSD Samsung MCCOE64GEMPP (SLC) since one year without problems, using it about 4 hours by day.

John, thanks for the ribbon cable. The one I have is still doing good, but I may pick up one of yours just so I have it on hand. As for the Samsung drive, it is a very nice drive. I didn't realize you could still get those drives. I will have to look into it. The Sandisk is much lower price though, so I will have to decide which one to pursue. The Samsung does have the faster SLC architecture.

What SSD did you decide on wiggy1 ?
    Motion LE1600 VA x2, Motion LS800, Toshiba M200 x4, Motion LE1700 x4 and a TC1100 with dock just for nostalgia. No Ipads.

DD - The seller sold out by the time I made up my mind. I ended up going back to the 80 GB Toshiba drive. The funds were redirected for some family needs so I haven't been able to get another SSD. Recently I broke the screen on my LE1700, so I bought an iPad to get me by until I could fix the screen and now I can't justify the expense for the SSD.
