Motion Data Guard needed for SDD?
This may be a silly question. I installed an SDD in my LE1700 and installed windows 7. I am trying to just install the minimal amount of extra programs so the services stay reasonably few. I am wondering if there is any reason to install the Data Guard?

I've never used Data Guard and instead use Trend Internet Security. Should be fine without it but make sure you have some firewall/virus program in place. What SSD did you install? - noticable difference?

Nikalin,
I think you are confusing Data Guard with an internet security/anti virus product. Data Guard is a program on the LE1600 and LE1700 that works with the machine's accelorameters to detect if the tablet is being dropped. If it experiences a sudden accceloration, the Data Guard immediately parks the heads of the hard drive so they don't crash a platter and ruin the hard drive. So it is more of a physical data protection program.
As for the SSD, I bought a 1.8" 64GB Zif SSD by KingSpec. Bought it on eBay. It is rated as max 100MB/s sustained read and write. There is a huge difference over the OEM HD. I installed Windows 7 in less then 20 min from start to configuring the environment. That is faster then my HP tx convertable tablet with 5400 RPM drive. The reboot time is under 2 min from full on state to full on state to include AV and firewall which always hogg my system resources on start up. I haven't timed it but I believe I can go from full off to having a word file open in less than 2 min as well. From a business stand point that is very nice. I am installing my Office suite this evening. The Windows 7 was clocking transfer rate from my 16GB USB drive (transfering about 9 GB) at 23 MB/s. Previously the files had transfered at around 2-3 MB/s. So to answer your quesion, I am experiencing an order of magnitude improvement over the OEM 1.8" hard drive.

Haha...you're quite right, I always get muddled on Data Guard. Still, I'm glad to hear the SSD works. I'm tempted with the 128gb Kingspec, but its still around £250.

I was tempted with the 128GB as well. I hate buying products twice, but I was able to find a 64GB ZIF for $175USD on eBay and jumped. I figure I will buy a 32GB SD card for my backups since they work in the LE1700 so that will help with space and in a year or two the 128's or even the 256GB for that matter (still about $1,000 USD) will be low enough to warrant an upgrade.
Cheers
