So what makes the ST6012 better than its forebears?
1. Semi-rugged
The ST6012 features a new semi-rugged design including a hard-wearing, unpainted exterior, magnesium alloy inner chassis and protective rubber material around the LCD.
2. Performance
Using the latest Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor, the ST6012 will get faster performance and better battery life than the ST5112. Before, the maximum hard drive speed was 5400rpm and now they offer several 7200rpm hard drive options.
3. Battery life
While I don't think you can trust ANY manufacturer's battery life assessment because of the wimpy test they use, Fujitsu is predicting a significant increase in battery life and we'll test these out as soon as our demo unit arrives.
4. Display
WOW! 300 nit brightness up from 180 nits offered by the ST5112. With the addition of WXGA resolution and a continuation of 160 degree viewing angles, this is a nice display indoors or out.
5. Intel Turbo Memory
Up to 4Gb! What else do you need to say about that?
6. Optional integrated webcam
Nice, but not earth shattering
7. Wireless USB
Wireless USB or Ultra-Wideband or UWB is based on a short range, high bandwidith RF communication protocol that is capable of sending high data transfer to another UWB device. This could include printers, scanners, digital cameras, MP3 players, hard disks and flash drives.
8. Pre-boot authentication
Pre-boot authentication reduces the risk of attackers gaining access to data by not loading the operating system until it is user authenticated and the ST6012 is the only slate on the market now that comes standard with this feature.
9. Portshutter
This is an app that allows the user (or better yet, the network admin) to set policies restricting which ports are available to the end user - great for healthcare
