How is the new TIP's recognition with a mixture of numbers and letters?

I use Excel quite a bit and also save files with names such as 'S3 Trig'. In this example S3 is always recognised as 53 and Excel formulae are goobledygook.

I use Write Anywhere but I suppose I will have to get out of that habit soon.

Well, I just tried it on my M1300, and I get the same type of results when writing "S3 Trig". However, it is much easier to fix that it would have been with Write Anywhere. I just tapped the as-you-write recognition of S3, and was able to choose S3 as the correct recognition.

Here are the results of my tests for "S3 Trig"

I'll only include results for S3 since Trig is in the System Dictionary (US-Englsh)

    1. 10 Samples of "S3" (Printed (or as they say in the UK Manuscript) Cap S +3 ) = 9 Confidence Levels of Poor, 1 Confidence of Strong - Result 10% Accuracy

    2. 10 Samples of "S3" (Cursive cap S + 3) = 2 Confidence Levels of Poor, 8 Confidence Levels of Strong - Result 80% Accuracy

    Add "S3" to User Dictionary

    3. 10 Samples of "S3" (Cursive cap S + 3) = 10 Confidence Levels of Strong - Result 100% Accuracy

(tests results from Text Preview Pane of the TIP, YMMV, but they should be similar)

Mr. H., If your going to use some special syntax like "S3" "quite a bit" as you state in your post. Add "S3" to your User Dictionary. That's why it is there.

A full set of additions like Alpha(X)+Numeric(X) is only 260 entries. I think Excel could even create the wordlist.

Fritz, how did you come up with your confidence levels?

    Trev,

Good question, I'll add it to the Handwriting FAQ[eureka]

The Confidence level is provided by the US English recognizer.

I obtained the Confidence Property from the RecognitionAlternate object. You can also get this property on a Gesture object.

Strong, intermediate and poor is displayed as part of the Recognition Demo program on our website.

When you see a list of alternates for the editing UI provided, it is usually based on this Confidence Level.

    Hope this helps,

Ah good stuff. Any chance you know of, or ,knowing you, built, a program to display such information?

It's in the dictionary, it's been there almost from the word go.

It will correctly recognise S1, S2, S4, S5, S6 (these are class identifiers) but seems to have a problem with S3. It has never recognised it correctly. I have tried loads of different ways to write "S" & "3" but no luck.

I am not going to sit and write down all the different combinations I use in Excel. I would never get time to read the Buzz!

Yes, the free download "abletRecoDemo" from our website will let you enter any word in ink and the word will be recognized and the Confidence Level will be displayed as either Strong, Intermediate or Poor.

A note in the SDK indicates this is only returned using the MS US English recognizer. I'm not sure what happens with other systems. E-mail me if you want the source for this routine, a code snippet was added to the Handwriting FAQ which shows the basic method. fritz.switzer@abletfactory.com .

    Hope this helps,
