I've only had experience with the M200 but is there a way to make it do dictation without keeping pen to screen on the dictation button?

I have the middle tablet button on my M200 mapped to Windows+V. This turns on and off the microphone. You can set that under Control Panel / Tablet and Pen Settings / Tablet Buttons. Hope this helps.
