Right, here's the deal on the prices:

    Toshiba M200 from toshiba.com (USA): $2,399.00, which = £1,270.02
    Toshiba M200 from toshiba.co.uk (UK): £1,878.83, which = $3,550.14

To buy the Toshiba M200 from the UK, I would have to spend $1151.14 more!

My parents have said that they'll put £1100.00 forward for a laptop, which is $2,078.45. I'd be more than willing to pay the extra money for the Toshiba M200 from the USA, but not from the UK.

Question: if I buy from the USA, do you think I could get it serviced in England?!

YES! Phoned Toshiba UK (and got through to a real person within minutes), and all the warranties are INTERNATIONAL, which means I can buy the M200 from the USA (when I'm on my summer trip to America, so I told him ;)), bring it home, and get it serviced HERE if anything goes wrong.

And the power supply will sense a change in voltage, and all I'll need will be a UK adaptor plug to make it work here. Thing is, I don't know if you can buy UK adaptor plugs IN the UK.... ! I'm sure you can though. For international people living here. Yeah.

    YEAH! :)

P.S. I've just realised... buying a Toshiba M200 from the USA is £100 cheaper than buying a Toshiba 3500 from the UK. Keep falling, dollar! ;)

You won't be sorry about waiting for the M200....I tried the 3500 at a local computer store...did not like the plastic feel or the screen. Almost bought an M1300 but when the M200 came out, I realized it was the one for me. I use Word, messengers, internet A LOT, and also do DV video capture/editing, games, spreadsheets, DVD backups, Palm Hotsync. I think the extra screen real estate is great if you do a lot of web browsing in portrait mode or read e-books. This machine will easily serve my needs for the next 5 to 10 years. Good luck!

motion1 - I'm not actually going to America, but told the UK salesman on the phone that so they wouldn't be offended I wasn't buying from Toshiba UK. ;)

    Samantha,

The dedicated 32MB video chip will also a plus down the road if you keep the M200 for a while. That and you can put up to 2GB RAM in the thing.

WMadan - I'm definitely looking into the M200 now, and thought buying from the USA would be perfect. Until I phoned UK Customs & Excise today and realise they'll whack on VAT at 17.5% - about $370 extra, lol.

    So, still deciding. :)
