    Default I bought my wife an Acer C110 and have it home t

    I bought my wife an Acer C110 and have it home tonight, trying to make good on my pre-purchase promise that she can wirelessly connect to the adapter on our home desktop. The home desktop connects to the internet via cable modem and shares that connection over an ad hoc wireless network.

    The Acer falsely insists no wireless network is available. I know this to be false because my OTHER tablet (a Motion 1200) not only identifies the wireless network but connects to it without difficulty. It comes right up when I enable wireless on my Motion, but the Acer defiantly insists there isn't any wireless out there for it to connect to. I have them right here next to each other in the same room, within 3 feet of the wireless adapter on the desktop PC. Distance/signal strength can't possibly be the issue.

    Let me guess. Bad wireless card in the Acer -- going to get to return it and be without it for who knows how long?

    Is it on ? ..Not totally kidding ;-}
    Intel's Centrino ..Wireless is crap ...but I digress.
    Since your in Ad Hoc mode ..make sure that the ACER knows this, since this is not the standard default Infrastructure Mode.
    It's possible it's looking for an SSID .( which is not used in Ad Hoc ?? )
    Also Given that B routers are $20-$30 (after Rebate ), you might consider going that route.
    Usually means better range ..Desktop does not have to be on ..you can turn off ICS ;-]..etc.
    And yes ..bad card ...quite possible..but check card connection , is it seated?
    I don't have a C110 , but on Compaqs' there is also a bios enable.
    Also check that your ethernet is not Bridged or that you now have a wirless Gateway on the ACER . XP's network wizard is morronic and can install both and both are totally unecessary.
    Also Centrino 802.x security settings are known to cause major problems with older equipement.

    Not your issue(s) ...I think ..but it might help someone else.
    ;-}

    Just to state the obvious, you know, dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

    Acer c110 has a hardware button (that runs a program) that enables/disables the wireless card. Sure it's ON?

    Your router might not be 100% compatible with the Intel 2100 Wi-Fi card. Download Network Stumbler, install it, if it finds your router - lack of compatibility is the case. Not to worry, there is a solution. Go into your device manager, right click on the WiFi card and select properties, select the Advanced tab and set the Power Management to Highest. Reboot your computer and everything should be fine.

    Thanks to all who replied. Maxing out the power settings on the wireless card did the trick.
