[bday]I just bought the Storix Slim DVD/CDRW drive. It got almost everything I want: self-power from USB port, fairly light and slim, and especially it's bootable from my M200... And it cost only $100... Hope you find this info useful...

Thanks, that is indeed useful to know!
By the way, is there anything special to look out for in general with choosing a CD/RW/DVD to ensure that it is bootable? Are some bootable and others not?
I was considering the "Addonics 18-in-1 Multi Format Recorder", but now I'm not sure if it's a good choice, taking bootability into account.
Cheers,
Kai
I looked at that device too... However, I decided not to go for that because of below reasons:
- It's heavy
- I am not sure if it can run on USB power
- I am not sure if it's bootable..
I have a storix slim dvd/cdrw drive and I couldn't get it to boot, are you sure it works?
Thanks for pointing those out -- I need to put my thinking cap on and weigh it up (literally!). I kind of jumped at the flash-card reading capability [of the Addonics thing], since it implies I could just toss it into a backpack without a notebook while out photographing.... but on the other hand it's not quite as handy as it sounds at first reading. One then has to carry around a heap of blank CD's to make good use of it! I shoot RAW format images on a 6mp camera, so would chew through a few CD's on trip: it could be at least one a day.quote:Originally posted by TabletDeveloper

It really probably is more sensible to get a good, slim dedicated CD/RW (+DVD?), and also get a dedicated flash card/image storing device (that's HD-based) as a separate unit.
just for the record...my storix worked on the compaq TC1000 and now on my M200
Can you post the URL of where you purchased the Storix Slim DVD/CDRW? I can't find it under $140. on the web.
Thanks
Here's the answer for Jstigall and DonutHunter:
- Yes, I could boot from it... Make sure you change the boot priority of your M200
- I bought it from TigerDirect.com for $99.00
I have the 8x version, maybe thats the problem, or maybe I need to have it plugged into the ac adapter to boot, cause last time I tried it didn't boot even when setting the proper priority.
Isn't this drive unable to restore from the DVD image ?
