You should be careful. I have used other 12 Volt transformers successfully; however, one time I tried a few other transformers (these just seem to accumulate), and I ended up burning a fuse on the Viewsonic motherboard(tiny surface mount fuse, not an easy fix:().
You can use a voltmeter to check the output of a transformer that you think might work, although the output will change once it's connected (I am almost certain of this).
I "guesstimate" that my Viewsonic uses up to about 900mA (display on bright, battery charging), look for a transformer rated at least 1000mA.
