Firewire Ports come either as 4 pin(non-powered) or 6 pin(powered). Motion's Firewire ports are non-powered. Addonics has a cable that plugs into both USB ports that might work.
I just purchased the Addonics external drive and I need to figure out how to power this thing off of the M1300. My unit came with the USB 2 power cable only.

Am I right that I will need the firewire interface cable
(http://www.addonics.com/products/int...1394_cable.asp), and the dual input USB too

It's not clear from their site or previous posts how to power this thing from the M1300

I have one of these and have to use the FireWire as the data cable and the USB for power. Works great, but sometimes I have to plug it in a few times for Windows to recognize it.
The FireWire unit shipped with the required USB power cable, so I didn't have to buy anything extra.

The M1300 USB does not have enough power to run the Addonics drive. So to get it to run you need to use both the USB ports to power the drive. Thus the only possible way of sending data, when using both ports for power, is the firewire. So, in short, you are right.

Addonics has a cable that plugs into both USB ports, but one of the Ports is also used for data transfer. Fire wire isn't the only possibility.

So all I need is one dual-headed USB cable to power and data this device. Can you point me to the one? Thanks.
