Is a 1st generation tablet adequate to replace my basic desktop?

I am considering buying used 1st generation tablet and am wondering how many of you actually switch back to you desk top when you get home or how many find the tablet has the functionality to be both your home computer and your on the road computer??

This is a general comment, as always, it depends on the power/speed of the computer and what you want to use it for. The only time I use a desktop is at the office, only because its there and on.
Personally, this is my 3rd laptop, running windows 95, 98 to the current tablet XP, each with a docking station, I hardly notice the difference and would not go back to a desktop. Depending on what I'm doing, I use the appropriate laptop to do the work.

I use my TC1000 as my full-time home, work, and travel computer. I used to have four desktops at home, this replaced two of them. I keep the other two for games (though I do play some on my games on the TC1000, like Civ3). It is a bit slow with major multi-tasking or photo-editing, but most tasks it is great and I use it in a much wider number of situations.

As a basic desk top, yes. Note that many people have had trouble gaming on the TC1000 but maybe the Intel based first generation tablets run games better. As above, the tablet may run slow for photo editing. I use my TC1000 exclusively at work, but web browsing and word processing make up about 95% of my on the job computer-related activities (playing background music accounts for the majority of the other 5%).

My poor desktop and laptop have been very lonely these days since I now do everything on my tablet. Daily use includes research, writing papers, creating presentations, music, burning discs, photos, etc. Basically, regular school stuff, plus I can use my tablet in class, like I never would have used my laptop. The only thing I Still use daily is my palm.
