Default System Guard = Pointless and other repair hijinx

So is System Guard a giant scam or what?

I brought my well loved M4 into the shop to get some things fixed under the system guard warranty. Supposedly the system guard should cover accidental damage but the latch wasn't covered. I was told that Toshiba doesn't consider that necessary for operation. The system had the LCD and Mobo replaced, so pretty much the whole system save the hard disk and casing, but they won't replace a tiny piece of plastic. :(

I got the system back but found the wireless switch was missing and the motherboard wasn't installed straight causing a 1/8" gap in the housing and the ports to be blocked by the housing. I brought it back in to get it fixed.

I got the system back again and found that it hard locks after 30 or so minutes. The main vent barely has anything coming out and doesn't spin up when the temperature increases. I also found that the intake fan doesn't spin at all anymore. The bottom of the case becomes so hot that it is painful to touch, and I have a high tolerance for pain.

It sounds really much like the technician that "fixed" your computer needs to get his career "fixed". Permanently.

I'd take it up with a manager at the site that fixed your computer. Have the full history of "fixes" and faults written down when you go see him. Do see him face-to-face if at all possible, since it gives better results than a phonecall. ( Not as easy to shrug off as a bitchy customer :) )

If the manager is a dork, go over his head. Contact a manager at Toshiba customer center. Someone high up enough to make it matter.

A customer never deserves a bad service. Ever. (I'm working as an Apple tech. All customers come equal :) As long as my work is perfect, people have a hard time complaining (even tho some people actually manage to... :P ))

I had my system repaired under system guard and everything was perfect. Try locating another service center in your area.

I dropped it off at a different place this afternoon, at nearly an hour away it is 3 times further than the last place. This guy was friendly and told me system guard should cover anything once per year.
I was given a 1-2 week estimate, barring back ordered parts. Hopefully I get it fixed right and in time for school.

About a month and half ago, I accidentally dropped my beloved m200 down a flight of stairs. The LCD was cracked, and the casing assembly damaged. Since I don't have a car, I sent the m200 via UPS Store to a repair depot. It arrived at the depot on 6/20/07, and came back on 7/27/07. It would've taken longer had I not called in to say, "school starts on aug 6th, I want the laptop back by aug 1 or else!"

Still, it came back in almost brand new condition and I'm loving the new LCD screen - it's not matte like before, but really hard and clear like a Sony laptop.

They did replace the LCD, mask and gasket along with the mainboard a few weeks ago which was nice. I'm hoping to get it back next week, they told me 1 - 1.5 weeks has been their average lately. I told them I need it by the 20th so I can get it prepped for classes, I'll call at the 2 week mark if I don't hear back before.

Not having a PC at home sucks. I gave my sister my desktop after I got the multidock II, now I'm regretting it.

Well Toshiba's telling me to go pound dirt now.

At first they were claiming I never bought the plan, even though their own website says otherwise. Now they tell me I didn't purchase it within 30 days. That's funny since the first place looked at it without billing me. So unless the place was a free break your laptop service they have some explaining to do. :(

Now I get to go dig up a receipt from over a year ago to prove coverage, oh goodie. Why should the onus be on me when their website says I'm covered?

    NEVER buying Toshiba again, period!
