Heh, I deleted the drvinst.exe file. I then installed the driver and software like normal and now everything works. Good job! My tablet runs really fast now. I timed it from pushing the power button and it took 1min 15secs to get all the way to the desktop. Clean reinstall with minimal IBM applications installed and I also installed Adobe Acrobat & Microsoft Office.

Unfortunately with the latest database crash, most of the postings to this thread between May 12 and late September 2006 have once again vanished.

However, this time I had a personal backup which I can host on my University's server for those who may wish to research some of the lost postings. The backups are in mhtml format (a complete web page packed into a single file) and require Internet Explorer for viewing.

Here are links to the archived postings between May and September (which were numbered as pages 10 - 25 before the database crash):

Again, you will need IE6 or IE7 to view these files. Although they will look like the old web pages, be aware that some of the links may not work as expected. For example, if you try to go to page x with the drop-down box you will probably be sent to a different page than you expect.

    MARK MARK MARK!!
    You are my saviour!!

I manage 49 IBM X41T's and all I get are complaints about how slow they are.

I am currently in the process of following your instructions to create the new CD's

    Once again thanks,

    Ryan

Just a comment... I did the fresh install of tablet pc 2005 (bought a new copy to save time) The difference is staggering, huge, profound... wow. Someone at IBM (now Lenovo) should be held up to ridicule for releasing the x41 on consumers so crippled.

great thread...my fresh lenovo xp tablet install had a 5 plus minute start up... ive tweaked it down to about 2 and uninstalled a bunch of their programs etc.... and will do a acronis image and then try out a fresh install of xp tablet edition...and compare.... then ill image it...and ill try windows 7 when my RAM memory upgrade comes in and post all the results...

im loving this tablet...even though its many years old technology.... I mainly bought it for ebook reading/emagazine reading in tablet port mode...and its been great for that... but use it also as a netbook type device... basic surfing while laying down and such...

I haven't been actively monitoring this thread lately due to the frequent forum outages and the lack of email notification to new responses. I've rewritten this procedure and am currently maintaining it on:

    Hey,

I made my XP Tablet cds when this topic first started and did the clean install and everything worked well. but over spring break i had to do a clean install and left by xp tablet disks at school so i just used regular xp pro.

when i got back i tried to do a clean install with my xp tablet cds and it just reloaded regular xp, during the install process it never asked for cd two. I am curious as to why this happened.

It does not really matter because since then i installed vista and it automatically set up the tablet features except for some of the buttons which i just had to install the drivers for. however, i am still curious as to why my xp tablet cds did not work like they had previously. did this have something to do with the fact that it just regular xp on my tablet when i tried to do the clean install this time around?

Wow! Dumb mistake. I forgot to use my key from the bottom of my x41 for tablet edition. When I originally tried I used one of my XP Pro keys. Whoops...
