Hi,
Others may be able to answer this question better than I...but with the 3500, only a PCMCIA drive is bootable. Whether any PCMCIA drive will work or it has to be the Toshiba (Targus) one I can't say for sure.

I have recently acquired a Portege 3500. The system was given to us by a local college that has asked for our assistance on a grant. As the system has been in use, I want to us the recovery CDs to reinstall XP Tablet. We do not have an external floppy or CD drive.
I am looking at buying two Addonics drives. One is their USB Pocket Floppy drive and one is their Pocket DVD/CD-RW drive. I was planning on getting the DVD/CD-RW drive with the Cardbus adapter and also buying the USB interface cable. This will give me the option of 16-bit/32-bit PCMCIA (switch on the cable) and also the higher speed USB 2.0.
My questions are ...
1) Has anyone had problems booting to the Addonics floppy drive?
2) Is the Addonics DVD/CD-RW drive bootable?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
