    Hi all,

Being an avid TC1000 owner I've upgraded to the TC1100 but I seem to have a couple of issues.

    1. In slate mode (i.e. no keyboard) the fan is on constantly. As soon as I re-attach the keyboard the fan stops instantly, take the keyboard off again and the fan starts up.

    2. Clicking the mouse button or pen causes a intermittent clicking sound to come from one of the speakers. I've muted the sound so it's not windows itself.

    Any help or advice appreciated.

    All the best,

    Danny

    Already?

I cant believe it still has a fan.

    Quiet tabs are a MUST!

Sorry to hear about your speaker problem.

I get the same clicking noise from my TC1100 even when the sound is muted.

    Anyone else having this problem?

I have a TC1100. No problems with the speaker click here and no problems with the fan thing either. However, I haven't put on any battery aid or the like that controls how fast my CPU runs - I think it generally runs at 597mhz or something like that according to the System settings. Maybe if it was running at full speed, the fan kicks in when in slate mode with no keyboard attached whatsoever.

Speaker does not make a sound when muted.

Fan, when coming on, does not remotely seem loud to me... However, I don't have a TC1000 to compare to. At least it doesn't run super hot like those Motions ; )

I do not have a TC1100; I do plan to get one soon. I am worried about these symptoms especially with two people reporting it. Jonpole, how's your hearing?...

I have a TC1100. Fan is like a whisper and no clicking. I love my TC1100.

I have a TC1100 also and the fan is very quiet. I haven't noticed the fan running anymore in tablet mode than with the keyboard attached. I also haven't experienced the clicking sound here either.

Hope you are able to get those problems sorted out. I just can't say enough about how much I like the TC1100.

drvinhle: I definitely think you should go with a TC1100 if it's really the one that fits your needs. As mentioned by some other people, their TC1100s don't seem to have the problems with the speaker click or a constant fan.

That being said, it seems that it IS a problem for Danny's and digginsa's ..... I would suggest both to contact HP and start complaining because it's not supposed to be like that = )

Sometimes these things are "luck of the draw".... I do know one thing though - after kicking my screen accidentally, I'm glad it's a glass screen and not an LCD ; ) ...

    Hi all,

    Thanks for the replies.

Looking through old posts it looks like the TC1000 had a similar fan issue. To be more precise the fan kicks in when the machine is in any configuration other than 'laptop' mode (i.e. keyboard attached screen facing keys). The post mentions that this is 'as designed' to make certain the fan is on in slate mode or slate attached to keyboard (obviously would get much hotter in this config). The fan definately wasn't on this much with the TC1000 and when it did come on it'll be for a sustained burst and then turn off. The TC1100 always stays on and as mentioned only shuts down when locked in place.

Talked to HP about the fan issue and they suggested downloading a couple of files from their support site. These were initial releases so I dind't hold out much hope, and I was proved correct, no change :-(.

I've only had the little fella for a few days so I'm going to try to get it exchanged. The fan I believe (hope!) I can live with but the clicking is annoying and when you pay this sort of cash you expect it to be perfect.

    Regards,

    Danny

I have both a TC1000 and TC1100. The TC1100 fan, when it comes on, is definitely quieter. No preference (keyboard, slate etc configuration) for when it comes on. I don't have the click either. The speed boost is great! with the Pent-M. And the screen is also much improved by the abscence of sparkles and the fact you can see it at all angles (although I didn't mind the sparkles, it made it seem more magical:) ). Its the best of the bunch as far as I am concerned.

My advice is to send it back, I think it has problems.

BTW, anyone notice any difference in fan operation if you have 512M vs 1G (I have 1G in mine)?
