Default Hi, Are UK users finding the support and reli

    Hi,

Are UK users finding the support and reliability of the TC1000 fairly good? It seems to have developed a good user base overseas but very few places have demo units or units for sale in the UK and I've been stung before by getting first generation products. Although the TC1100 is second gen, they seem to be at a much higher price point than that of the TC1000 at launch.

I'm also torn between the TC1000 and 1100. Primarily I want something for wireless web browsing, viewing media files and viewing documents, so the lower cost TC1000 seems to fit the bill. Any comments on the need for the higher spec TC1100 to get the best out of this type of activity?

Thanks in advance for any comments/views.

I love it, downsides are the 'nipple' mouse, I've never got on with them so use a Microsoft USB Mini mouse when I need to, lack of Bluetooth or iR and the speed, it's not that it's slow but I'm impatient!

The TC1100 seems to have resolved all except the mouse although I understand the form factor is the issue. If I could justify the expense I'd get an 1100 tomorrow. The wow factor is alwasy present, whenever I get it out of my case in new company there's always a comment or enquiry and complaints as to why they never get kit as good as this :)

I think I'll have to take the plunge. As soon as I can get the cheaper Tc1100 early in Jan then I'm away. The Celeron may not be cutting edge but it seems like the TC1100 addresses a lot of the issue with the first gen models.

    Thanks for the comments.

Hello, this is my first post. i live in Wales and bought a TC1000 last week, I couldn't really justify the extra expense of the 1100. It's a bit slow, but you get used to that, I'm not sure how much faster the celeron would be. I nicked a 256 memory chip out of my old laptop, (which my daughter now has), hopefully this will improve the speed. The slowest thing is booting up, I dread those upgrades that say you have to reboot, it takes about 10 minutes. That's why i usually let the thing hibernate, it's much quicker. I had a cardbus cd rewriter before and it works perfectly, I also bought a bluetooth usb thingy for £14. (I'm not sure why, I haven't got anything else bluetooth!)

Overall for using the web wirelessly and for Office apps, it's perfectly fine. I've not had any hardware niggles so far (touch wood) so I'm really chuffed with it. It'll get used a lot for presentations a lot too, so being able to write directly onto the screen without needing a horrible white board will be good too.

    snov,

There are a number of tweaks you can do that can improve performance. You may want to search the forum for "Tweaks" for some ideas. Be sure to check out Christopher James' excellent website at http://tc-one-thousand.com/.

Besides adding RAM, I believe the most valuable tweak is simply to turn off the Windows XP visual effects (often called "eye candy"). You can do this as follows:

    - Right click "My Computer" and select "Properties"
    - Click on the "Advanced" tab
    - Click on "Setting" inside the "Performance" box
    - Click on the button next to "Adjust for best performance" (which will uncheck all the items in the window below)
    - Scroll down to "Use common tasks in folders" and put a check in the box
    - Click "OK"

    Enjoy your TC1000.

    Snov,

One other thing. I'm in Texas, and I'm unclear about meaning of the term "I'm really chuffed with it" in your message. I assume being "chuffed" is a good thing, but I'd appreciate a more detailed explanation of the term.

Thanks for the tip and encouragement. I saw Chris's website and it was this that made my mind up to get the Compaq.

Have a good Christmas, don't worry about the beef! [xmas]
