Never thought about getting one of those. That heat does tend to hit in the wrong places ;)
I bought a Targus Tornado Notebook Chill Pad $29.95 @ CompUSA yesterday. Man is it Great. Its a 2 pieces of light plastic with 2 small USB powered fans in-between. It weighs about the same as the small Targus Cool Pad,is the same thickness and has the same footprint of my Toshiba 3505. It has 2 fans to keep the tablet and your lap cool. The USB cable has an on/off so the fans aren't on all the time. It obviously decreases battery life, but it doesn't seem too bad. It's great when your are plugged in.
The strange thing is its not listed on Targus's web site.
anyone else have one?

Like Rob I never thought of getting one of these for myself. Someone gave me one as a gift a couple of days ago. I brought it into the office yesterday and tried it out. I'm sold.
I ran the tablet all day yesterday from my desk in laptop mode, plugged in all the while. The tablet remained completely cool to the touch the entire time. I mean cool to the touch.
I was never that bothered by the heat of the unit before, and since I do use my tablet at my desk plugged in quite a bit I've probably added a piece of hardware to my desk.
I have had one since my first tablet (Toshiba 3500) and I was hooked in the first 5 minutes. Now my wife has one for her laptop, I have one in my home office in Danbury, and I keep one at my regular office in White Plains. These cooling bases make a HUGE difference.
As I too, am using my M200 at the desk a lot, could you please summarize the major value you see in having the fans in desk mode?

From my perspective I guess it breaks down this way. Given all the discussion on heat and its affect on battery life, possibly WIFI, and what it will inevitably do over time it seems like it would make sense. I've noticed in the day and a half that I've had it on my desk with some heavy usage it has the tablet fan has not run as much.quote:Originally posted by roccor

The unit runs much cooler, and as a result, runs more efficiently.
Yeah, that too.
Very cool idea (pun intended). Check the following link for multiple such products from Targus:

Is it loud? Is it hard enough that I could use it on my bed?
