I've had that problem before. It had to do with windows controlling my wireless settings...i installed my wireless card's software and then unchecked the "let windows handle my wireless connection" box and rebooted and it's worked ever since
Here is what is going on... Internet Explorer can't find any websites opening it just gives the fun "cannot find server - the page cannot be displayed message"
But here's is the weird part... myIE2 (which uses the internet explorer engine) works perfectly and they both use the same internet settings control panel.
Every other program I have that connects to the internet works perfectly as well, just not Internet Explorer.
Oh... this is a problem on my desktop (not a tablet... sorry) it is running WinXP SP2 and I connect to a wireless router upstairs.
Any ideas????
Thanks much,
Pete

Have you pinged your Router with your errant desktop?

No I haven't tried to ping the router because every other program on the computer finds the router and the internet just fine. Even the other web browser on the system.
I dunno I'm stumped
check your ie plugins, alot of spam sites install a plugin that redirects your url through them as a proxy, and if the site that they send you to is down or does not exist anymore your will get that error. If you are uncomfortable searching through the registy try adaware at www.lavasoft.de or zero popup at http://www.tooto.com/index.htm it has an option called bho manager that lets you remove plugins.
Maybe I misunderstood you? What do you mean every other program on the computer finds the router? Did you mean computer and not program?quote:Originally posted by PeteW

Every other computer is not the errant computer. Each computer must be able to read the router firmware. Ping it in the Browser with somthing like 192.168.1.1 and see if you can reach your firmware.
DigitalDoc,
I think the problem is that all programs on the computer except IE have access to the internet. PeteW can run MyIE2 normally without problems, but IE doesn't work.
Just trying to clarify. Good luck with your problem!

Step one is to confirm communication with AP firmware in browser or dos box. Cached pages can fool you into thinking other programs are running fine.quote:Originally posted by invisiblejules
