After reading all the great stuff about the TC11

After reading all the great stuff about the TC1100 I ordered one a few minutes ago. I called HP and they said the docking station from the TC1000 was interchangeable with the TC1100. Only difference is the new one has HP instead of Compaq.

I'd like to upgrade the memory for my new TC1100. My previous memory upgrade came from Crucial but when I visited their website they only show the TC1000 in theire selection. Does anyone know where I can get more memory? Also, would the memory upgrade I purchased for my TC1000 be interchangeable with my TC1100?

Also, if you don't use the docking station what is the best method used for installing software?

Since the TC1100 uses MUCH faster memory than the TC1000 (333mhz vs 133mhz in exp slot on TC1000), the two types are not compatible. I'm getting Compaq branded memory (256mb) for $79 from www.ebuyer.com. 768mb should do me just fine.
Also, look from robdam's post, he bought the right kind of memory from crucial.com.
What you're looking for is:
SODIMM 200-pin pc2700 DDR Ram. Crucial's has a 64X64 configuration.
In the previous topic, about 2 or so pages before this, is a topic about TC1100 memory, with the link to buy this memory.

I posted previously about installing software, best is with a portable cd rom drive (USB2.0), but you can also get away with connecting the TC1100 to a desktop computer with ethernet (or wifi) and access the desktop's cdrom drive and install that way.

PCat, thanks again. I decided to keep my docking station that came with my TC1000 so installing software and such is a non-issue for now.

768MB is what I have now. I can only imagine what more would do. I'm fantasizing now. Actually, how much more would I realize by adding more. 2G just seems awesome and perhaps overkill.

I bought my 512 MB upgrade from Crucial and it works perfectly. Here is the link for the 512 MB SODIMM.

You can never have too much memory, it's always nice. But, there's only one DIMM slot, so you'd have to buy a single 1GB chip to have 1.5GB of ram. (I'm not sure how you could upgrade to 2GB, even though the specs say you can!)..
While that sounds just peachy, and it is, there is a HUGE price increase between the 512mb and 1gb chips.. Like $140 vs. ~$700 (cheapest), compaq's is even more than that.
So, unless money is absolutely no issue, I'd say stick with the 512MB upgrade and you'll have a total of 1GB. That's plenty enough for most everyone..

I went with the Compaq memory, I know silly because it's overpriced. But I had that bad experience with the Geil memory (which is supposed to be as good as kingston ??) and so I want to be able to tell tech that I have HP/Q branded memory, in case their are any future problems.
I only bought 256MB at $79, because $249 was way more... IF it needs more though, I'll sell that on this forum and upgrade to the 512MB. I do run an awful lot of Math simulation programs and programming IDEs and compilers, so it may not suit me, but I hope so!

I don't think that's silly at all. You trusted HP quality control for the rest of the machine, no reason to extend that faith to the memory.

So you have 768? Be sure to let us know how that works out for you. Impacts on performance, battery life and any other observations.
