Thread: When I increase resolution from 1024X768 to anyt

Default When I increase resolution from 1024X768 to anyt

When I increase resolution from 1024X768 to anything above such as my preferred landscape resolution of 1280X768, the pen points true on certain parts of the screen versus other parts of the screen where it points off by a half an inch.
The task bar (lower area) seems very accurate while the upper areas are off.
In the higher rez mode you expect to scroll to see non-displayed areas however I cannot figure out why the pen behaves so poorly even after calibration resets.
Is this a normal TabletPC drawback ? I did see the same thing with the cheaper TDV Vison v800.

LCD Screens only work well at their native resolution. Anything else (higher or lower) and the quality suffers. Also, 1280x1024 is actually a 5:4 ratio while 1024x768 is a 4:3 screen ratio. You might want to see if there is a 1280x960 resolution option on it. It should look better on an LCD screen designed for a 4:3 ratio, although it won't necessarily improve digitizer accuracy. Native screen resolution is something you just have to deal with for an LCD screen. Unless the drivers are really well written there are going to be some issues even at the same screen ratio as native resolution.

I can't remember where I found this info. It might have been Toms Hardware, maybe somewhere else.

Your point is standard information that everyone using this forum already knows.

My issue has to do with the drivers that control pen usage. I was not complaining about loss of quality.

Yes, but the digitizer might be assuming a 4:3 ratio. If you're doing 5:4 it might work where it would be if it were 4:3. Did you try 1280X960 before dismissing what I said?

I did not dismiss your comments. I appreciated your feedback.
Your suggestion and comments regarding LCD performance are common knowledge though for most geek types that use this forum. It's good though that you made you replied since some viewers may not have been aware of this. Your comment did not help with my quetion however I am glad that yo responded. I do not have either tablet anyway. I had access to them for a few days.
Why don't you try it if you have access to a tablet and reply back to this forum. Maybe I can learn something here.

I'll see what I can try out next time I'm at the UBC bookstore. They've got a couple display tablets there I can play around with. I know they don't have any Electrovaya there, but since you had the same problem with the TDV (which they don't have either) it might still crop up.

if the digitizer is expecting 1024x768 (which all wacom digitizers are expecting), then changing that should change the pen response...this resolution is a wacom spec...the tabletpc makers could obviously easily put a higher-res screen on the tablets, but then they'd have that digitizer problem, so they put 1024x768 screens so that the pen input will be accurate

the new toshiba m200 is a convertible and it does have a higher native resolution, but that's only for when using as a laptop...the pen input is less accurate at that higher resolution than at 1024x768, so you have to put it in 1024x768 if u wanna use the pen...then change to higher for laptop mode

    Nicholasp27,
A heads up...your observation about the M200's resolution in tablet mode caught my eye (unaware of this limitation I had ordered the M200). I cut 'n' pasted it over to the Toshiba forum for further discussion. I seems like a pretty big omission from the specs and promotions that all make such a point of the superior screen.

Just wanted you to know....in the spirit of disclosure. Thanks for your insight!

Wrong wrong wrong... The works in any resolution and is no less accurate. They aren't using a standard wacom tablet, its been adjusted to meet thier needs.

i saw your post over there
thanks for the clarification and sorry for the wrong info...i was told wrong by an apparently uniformed source
i think that may be the thing that pushes me from the sc2000 side to the m200 side
