Default Im currently using OneNote for class. It seems

Im currently using OneNote for class. It seems to be the best program out so far for what I need. I just bought the official version and installed it, but havent had a chance to use it.

What have they changed or improved since the beta version?

    Any new features?

I wont get a chance to use it until Tuesday in class, and hoping that the huge number of people using it could throw in what theyve learned.
I didnt notice any messages about changes or improvements, and no memos in my academically priced version detailing changes.

    Thanks,
    Mal

I had a strange thing happen with the beta. I had over an hour of live audio recorded in a file, but was disappointed later when I could not find it.

I was able to replay it immediately, but after shutting down OneNote and then the machine, later, I could open OneNote, see the same page (I had made some notes about things), but there appeared to be no audio.

Over the last month I have opened the OneNote beta to see if I could find and play that audio segment. No joy.

Installed the release version of OneNote last night.

The installation routine "noticed" the beta and asked for permission to remove it. Fine.

Then it "noticed" that I had some data files that needed to be updated. Fine, I've already lost what I cared about the most. Go ahead I thought.

When I opened OneNote, the audio was there!

If you had the first Beta version, the difference is night and day. In the first version, I was greatly annoyed by the ubiquitous grey boxes stiffling the note taking experience. My ink would suddenly be split into pieces on the page for no reason and continuity was a problem. In the technical refresh, that problem was solved. From what I remember (and my memory may be failing), the Beta did not have as many templates included in the new taskpane. Also, the interface appears more like Journal with standard lined paper as the opening stationary, which is convenient. Bugs with some of the flags have been changed (I heard this during the Office Launch Event that I attended in Cleveland yesterday) as well as some stability issues. I am not aware of any new or hidden features that the Beta did not include.

I wasn't too thrilled with the Beta and found myself using Journal over OneNote. I'm debating purchasing the final release version and giving it another shot. For now I'm using the 60-day evaluation to see how well it works for me now before plunking down the money for it. Since you're a student and that's what I'll be using it for, any recommendations on how to make the most out of OneNote for taking notes in class?

I used the beta, and like many was put off by the mass of grey boxes that my writing was broken into. I loaded the full production version as soon as it was available, and I haven't used Journal since. In short I love One Note. The million of grey boxes problem has gone away. I haven't gotten real fancy with it yet, i'm still learning how to incorporate it into my workflow, but I'm smart enough to realize that any failings at this point are mine and not the software.

One thing that I found out that is interesting, especially for students I'm sure:
Take it to class, and start recording the professor, and take notes as usual. As you listen to the audio, and key it to certain phrases, it will highlight what you were writing at the time the professor was speaking, thus later when you are wondering what you were thinking when you wrote some obscure notes, you can hear exactly what the professor was saying!
