    hi, thanks for the reply...

where can i find the updates?

i have an far-eastern model of the tc1k; would the updates work okay on that?

as for camera - sony uvc-11; mic and speakers - using the built in sound card (via headset). I'm on a standard uk adsl 512k/256k down/up.

When i mean slow - the network connection is fine; but the tablet is always at about 100% cpu!!

    Yeee.

How much memory do you have in your machine? This probably has the single biggest impact on the processor.

The other reality is simply that the processor in the TC1000 is not the fastest thing on earth. I haven't done videoconferencing on a PC is some time, but I do recall several things that impacted the performance.

1] Was the image well lit? VC camera need a LOT of light or the software tries to compensate by adjusting contrast and brightness. That makes for extra CPU work.
2] Is there considerable movement in the image (especially in the background). VC systems are generally designed to minimize data transmission by only sending changes in the picture. If you have a backaground that is moving about (or an individual in the foreground) you will see a lot more work being done by the CPU.
3] Different cameras have different levels of quality. I am the reach of my knowledge on the types of cameras, but for instance, a CMOS camera requires a lot more manipulation via software than other cameras.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but it's been a while. I don't know much about the Sony UVC-11. I looked for more details, but I was only finding scattered info.

I don't know if there are updates that are region specific, but if you can use the US updates, the webpage for them is:
    http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...e/97_5344.html

    Good luck!

    Nice summary of SteveNYC.

For anyone else following this, I found that sony uvc-11:
    http://www.japan-direct.com/cartitem.asp?prodid=484

I was curious if it was USB or something else. Can't find anything else on the web about whether on not this is cmos or some other technology.

I have experienced significant difference in performance with different cameras.

yee379 ... How much memory do you have installed?

I have used Viack for conferencing (not video though). I noted that the tc1k was a tad slow in handlng Viack over a wireless network with a dsl connection. However, I disabled Norton anti-virus and unloaded a few other programs and it seemed to work a bit better.
