I'll be starting college for the first time in a few days as a Computer Science major and am not quite convinced yet that I should get a Tablet. I've spent quite a while researching it and have determined that I would probably get a Motion M1300. However, can you guys please convince me that it's worth it to spend $2350 when I've been using pen/pencil and paper for all my previous schooling and haven't had too much of a problem with it? By the way, I already have a desktop for my dorm room and would really only be using this Tablet for taking notes (unless you can think of some other uses keeping in mind that I already have a powerful desktop).

    Thanks
For the most part, computers are tools used to accomplish goals. If you don't have a compelling reason, save your money.

On the other hand, as a college freshman, majoring in computer science, being without the latest high tech gadget, will be the most emasculating experience of your life with future cognitive ramifications rendering you forever impotent ;)

As IMT pointed out, one great advantage of using a TabletPC for students is printing text books to Journal for marking right on the page. It was so nice with my last class not having to carry around the 1300 page text book. I just wish the 2 text books I'm using right now had the text in PDF format on the included CD. Just think of the money we'll save in doctors bills for bad backs if we could just carry our tablet and not all these bulky text books. :)

As a CompSci major, a tablet might make a better second computer than your primary. However, if as a college student you can afford two computers (including a Tablet as a second), drop the compsci major, get into history, psych, or recreational "sciences" and have fun - you're already making enough money! ;)

its a matter of prioritees. as a highschool student whos only 15 yrs old, i can assure you that money can be quite difficult to come by. despite that, i decided it was worth working all summer to earn the funds for a tablet pc. i already have a desktop, altho i might sell that now that i have a tablet, but imo it was worth $1.5k for a device which would replace my entire backpack. Being able to eliminate unnecessary weights like paper and text books made this too lworth its weight in gold...

altho insurance covers chiropractic costs, only the tablet can keep my back out of trouble in the first place

Since I got my TabletPC in November I've turned my desktop on 2 times. The first time was to install a new video card and the second was last week when I cleaned my room and once again had access to it. For what I need a computer for, my tablet does it. The only thing the tablet wouldn't be good for is gaming (at least not my Toshiba). But between work and school I don't have time for games so it doesn't matter.

for awhile my desktop was a glorified mp3 player since i dont know how to get files off my desktop and onto my tablet... and then the desktop turned into a toy to play with linux... now its just high tech furniture
