Default Hi: I am an old user of tablet pcs, having ow

    Hi:

I am an old user of tablet pcs, having owned a Fujitsu Point 510 for a couple of years. I know have a Windows CE tablet. My question is:

Why does the touchscreen in the Windows XP Tablet PCs (at least the Toshiba and Acer that I have looked at) require an electronic pen? Why not simply be touchscreens. I hate the feel of the electronic pen in the Portege 3500. Are there any Tablet PCs with no electronic pen, that we can "touch with our fingers"?

Many thanks in advance for your responses, and my apologies if this question is "stupid".

    Fernando

Because the tablet pc spec require an active digitizer. That way you can rest your hand on the screen. Moreover, compared to resistive film, you get more resolution, more frequent updates and, in the case of wacom digitizers, pressure sensitivity.

You can try the other pens from wacom if you want, you might like them better (somewhat expensive, but that pen is probably the thing you hold the longest in your days).

Yeah with a touchscreen you'd give yourself carpal tunnel syndrome trying to write while keeping the rest of your hand off the screen. Then when nothing's happening you rest your hand on the screen and accidently delete all of your notes. Everytime I hand my tablet off to someone to try out they try to write the archaic way (keeping your hand off the screen). Once I tell them it's ok to rest your hand ont he screen they act so relieved.

Trust us, it's much better this way. Also even though the pen is electronic they don't require a battery. Well Compaq's does, but they screwed up there.
