I doubt it'll be upgradable to a Dothan as the chipset won't support it.

    Akil,

I'm still waiting on my Acer (Damn you Harmony!), but if the Acer is anything like other laptops, then it will not be upgradable. Most (if not all) laptops have their CPU hardwired to the MB, or there is a restriction due to chipset, or a design issue, or etc... There always seems to be something that prevents them from upgrading the CPU.

From a technical perspective there really is no reason for this. You could easily engineer a laptop to be completely upgradable, but from a business prospect this would be bad. Since most laptops in the past were aimed squarely at business users (home users were more of an after-thought) the mentatility of vendors was one of, "Let's have then buy a new one or get a new lease every 3 years." So, vendors could care less about upgradability. But hopefully this will change with more and more home consumers buying laptops & tablets.

    Joe
