Thread: I've been using Reader 2.0 for a couple of days

Default I've been using Reader 2.0 for a couple of days

I've been using Reader 2.0 for a couple of days so I decided to buy a book from Amazon. I can't download my book though because Amazon says my version of Reader isn't activated.

Anyone have any experience buying e-books from Amazon?

Anyone know how you can actually get some help from Amazon? I'm just lost in a never sea of links that aren't answering my question.

So far, I prefer regular books.

This MAY be a silly question...

MS very recently upgraded their reader with some DRM controls - have you updated your reader?

Yes, I have 2.5.1 (not 2.0 as I originally posted). I wonder if Amazon has updated their software to account for the latest version though. I've emailed Amazon so hopefully they will reply soon. I'm going on vacation Saturday morning and was hoping to read on the plane. :)

Have you activated your reader since the installed.
If you have not, go to http://www.microsoft.com/Reader/update
you will need a passport or hotmail account.
The web page will then write a file coded to your account to your pc.
now you should be able to buy books and read them.

Have you tried downloading the ebook onto another computer?

BUT remember to ensure that the activation email is the same as your tablet activation email!!!!

That way, you could download it and then simply copy the ebook over to your tablet.

As long as its the same activation it will work.

Note - if you buy an ebook and download it from Amazon for sure, and then try to download it to another PC with a different activation - IT WILL NOT DOWNLOAD.

I have activated Reader on my tablet. The 3 free books worked and I think they required an activated version of Reader. Plus, Microsoft's Reader site confirms that I have the latest version and I'm activated. I don't have reader installed on my desktop PC, but I could try that.

So, if I install Reader on my desktop machine and activate it with the same email address as I used for my Tablet activation, I should be able to download from my desktop and transfer to my tablet, correct?

My theory is that Amazon isn't current and has not updated to account for this newest version of Reader. My guess is that Amazon is checking my system for the previous version of Reader, not seeing it and telling me that *I'm* not current. If that's the case, I'll probably get the same results on my desktop machine but it's worth a try.

    Thanks!
