Up until a couple of days ago, I was able to hibernate in pure slate mode by hitting Start | Turn Off, then calling up the TIP and selecting Shift|H to hibernate.
Now as soon as I press Turn Off, the screen starts to gray out and I can't call up the TIP.
Anyone know where the setting is to remedy this?

I don't use this method. You might consider using the Compaq Menu Button, Jog Dial to Hibernate, then press the Jog Dial. I do this so much I've moved Hibernate to the first position on my Compaq Menu.

Or you can set the power switch to hibernate rather than go to sleep mode... This is done from the power settings in the control panel.
