Using the Motion Fingerprint Reader and Omnipass:

Following the instructions, you get two fingers registered, each with three swipes. This doesn’t allow for good recognition and leads directly to “frustrated user syndrome�. By taking some extra time and programming additional impressions of your finger, you should get 98% first swipe accuracy.

Here are the steps (after you have “enrolled� the first finger):

Open up the OmniPass software to the main menu (says Add/Remove User).

Choose the User Settings tab

From the User Settings menu on the left, choose Enrollment

From the Enrollment main menu, choose Enroll Authentication Device
- You will have to swipe your finger or enter your password to continue

You should see a picture of two hands. If a finger already has a green check above it, then it has already been enrolled.

Click on a finger which has NOT yet been enrolled. A red arrow will point to the finger. Click Next.

IMPORTANT: Swipe the SAME FINGER that you originally enrolled. Why? Well, after we repeat these steps for 8 fingers, you will have 24 impressions of your swiping finger, instead of just three. You can use the other two fingers to create 6 impressions of another digit (in case you cut one off chopping onions or something).

When you are creating the additional impressions, swipe your finger at various angles. This gives additional options for the Omnipass software when it is recognizing your fingerprint.

BTW, I can’t take credit for this idea – I’m pretty sure someone else on the Buzz already suggested it. I’m just listing the instructions to make it easier for the next guy or gal.

Sound good, but now Omni wont let me in with the thumb I have recorded. How do I reset it. I have tried to get in over 100 time, but it says No.

If you click the lock button you can enter a text password to enter the omni pass.

Sound like a good idea for anyone who is having trouble with finger recognition. Without doing this modification I used to get about 1 in 3 positive recognitions on first attempt when I just swiped my finger. I have increased this to about 90% by simply doing the following. I place my finger on the reader, count "one two", then swipe. For me this brief pause makes all the difference.
Adding multiple scans of your fingertips has got to decrease security somewhat, so I am a little hesitant to tricking Omnipass into being lazy.

I have my index finger scanned to hell and back and none of my friends can login with their fingers.

I would agree. Even though you have multiple swipes of your finger print, it is still your finger print and should not work on anyone else.

It is not other peoples fingers that is the problem. Type "defeat fingerprint reader" into google.
Whilst it is your finger print alone it can be acquired and defeated by various means. I would imagine the more scans you have the more lenient the recognition process would be. However I also realize that in the vast majority of cases no one is going to be bothered going to the trouble of pinching your biometrics.

Yeah. Most of the defeats are going to be used on stationary printers. I'm not worried about someone lifting my fingerprint off my keyboard and entering my tablet. Honestly, they'd be better off just asking me to login for them.

Not sure if anyone has encountered this problem but the first 2 swipes are fine for me. But when it comes to the last swipe, it always say "OmniPass was unable to obtain a usable fingerprint image. Please try again".

I tried counting to two before swipping my finger, but still no use. I have tried this so many times and can't get it right. Any ideas?
