I'm not sure what happened, but something's got very messed up.
    Hello

I am having great problems with XP. This just started suddenly, all my menu's, buttons, default text in webpages, taskbar buttons, message box text and taskbar text have all become italic, and I cant find any way to get them back

    Any ideas?

To see what it looks like and how some things are affected and some things are not, copy and paste this URL into the address bar (dont click, as I had to disable hotlinking)

copying this url in the adress bar (not directly clicking!)

If you go to Display Properties > Appearance tab and click the Advanced button, you get the pre-XP screen up which will allow you to change the fonts back to non-italic.

Windows 98 used to do this to me quite a bit, usually after explorer.exe crashed in a Windows session and the registry fouled up. Not sure why it would happen in XP though.

    Sym33,

Go to the "Appearance" tab in your Display Properties dialog and select the "Advanced" button in the lower right. In the Advanced Appearance dialog, select the "Item:" pull down, select "Menu" and see if the "I" button on the font row is depressed (selected). Unselect it to remove italics from the menu items.

    Hope that helps

All the settings in appearance are all set to non italic. When changing things from arial to another font, the problem goes away, but there are some things stuck in arial, in programs, and standard text in some other things (ie. internet).

It would appear my arial font is damaged or something. What can I do about it (However, in word, if I select arial and type, it comes out ok) ?

Have you tried changing to another font for all of your desktop stuff and then switching back to Arial? If you think your font is damaged, you can reinstall fonts from the Office XP setup.
