Default I've been using the compaq multibay and dvd/cd-r

I've been using the compaq multibay and dvd/cd-rw drive, but It's giving some problems. When I insert a CD, often I hear the dingdong sound and the drive disappears, then about 30 seconds later, it comes back and goes over and over again. I have to disconnect it, and try again. Sometimes this solves the problem. A while later, it occurs again, with the CD already in. It'll just suddenly disconnect then come back again, but at least it does come back, sometimes its impossible to get to work. The fan in it keeps coming on and going off while it is trying to start working when a CD is put in, and the D drive disappears from My Computer. When I eject the CD, the D Drive comes back.

Are you plugging the multibay into a USB port on the docking station?

I assume you've checked for secure connections between the multibay enclosure and the cables at the back of it? What about removing and reinserting the multibay drive from the enclosure? If issues continue, it sounds like a bad multibay or drive... Do you have access to any other multibay devices to try in the external enclosure?

I have no others to try. I have tried removing drive from the multibay, but it didnt help :(

    It only started happening recently

Sounds like a bad drive, could be the multibay as well, but probably the drive. Call HP/Compaq for a replacement.

Mine was doing to same with the multibay combo drive directly in my TC1000. The fix was one of two things---either the updated CMS OR using my multibay with it plug into external power rather than power from TC 1000. Like I said I did both at same time--but one or other fixed the problem completely and instantly.

I have a similiar problem with the Sony external DVD/CDR unit. After removing it, when I plugged it back in I would hear a single "bong", but the drive would not be recognized. My solution has been to hit the small reset button on the bottom of the unit, then the tablet sees it again.....

I have had the same problem with a vst usb drive. Worked for a while, I got all of my software installed and now I cant use the drive at all. It shows up, but wont read any disks. I will have to check it for a reset switch.
