I don't use an OEM drive.
You can install Windows 7 from scratch with any disk.
I am interested in getting a SSD and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this model?:

The hard drive ribbon cable is a toshiba zif.
I am only using the tablet (for now) for vector drawing so I do not need a very large storage capacity so I am interested in the 32gb drive.
Also - I purchased the LE1700 used and it was missing the HDD.
Since I do not have the original drive, I do not have a drive to "mirror".
Is there any way to get an operating system loaded on the new SSD?
Can I just order the Motion Computing Recover Discs & install on the SSD or does that require an OEM hard drive?
Any way to get WinXP or Win7 loaded without using the recover discs?
I appreciate any help as this is the final item I need to get this up and running.
Thanks!
Mike

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to use a USB cdrom drive or can I just load Win7 onto a flash drive to install?
You can use either an USB flash drive, an USB hard drive or an USB DVD drive.
I wanted to give a quick update.
This drive has been installed and (so far) seems to be working fine.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate using a USB flash drive & now installing the updates.
Also - the Axiotron Studio Pen seems to work just fine & can be purchased for $29.99 on ebay.
It has 2 buttons and a rubber grip. Mine came with extra tips & the removal tool as well.
It does not fit into the LE1700 hole where the oem pen is stored.
