Thread: Purchased a used Motion LE1700 with missing parts

  1. Question Purchased a used Motion LE1700 with missing parts

Hello - I'm new to the forum & have been reading up on these posts for a bit.

I just purchased a used LE1700, but it is missing the Hard Drive, Hard Drive Cable & Stylus Pen.

I am likely going to us a SSD for the hard drive, but from the research I have done - it looks like these came with a drive that either used a zif connector or a micro ATA connector.
Is it correct for me to assume that since I have no hard drive cable, I can use what ever connection that I want as long as I purchase the correct cable?

Will this cable work for me?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250969451526

The only thing in the hard drive bay is a female port that looks like it accepts a 40 pin male plug.
Other than that is just the metal frame that holds the hard drive in place under the plastic cover.

Once I get the hard drive installed - How do I go about getting the OS installed?
My research show that most mirror the original hard drive image to the new one, but I can not do that as mine came without the hard drive.

Also - the computer is missing the stylus/pen.
I have read in some forums that the Axiotron Studio Pens work well with the Motion Computing tablets, but is there a particular model that I need to look for?

Here is one that I have found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200710917295

Thanks so much for any information!
I am excited to get this up and running!

    Mike

    Welcome to TabletPCBuzz!

The link you have is to an LE1600 cable and that is different from the LE1700. We offer the LE1700 ZIF cable here but we're out of stock right now with no ETA from Motion Computing on when new ones will arrive. You might be able to find it elsewhere by searching for the part number.

You can use any pen that is designed for a Windows Tablet PC (Fujitsu, TabletKiosk, Lenovo, etc.). The cheapest that I have found are these Fujitsu pens. The only downside is they won't fit into the LE1700 pen garage. If that is important, then you have to buy a Motion Computing LE-series pen.

Last, to install the OS you will need to call Motion Computing and orders Recover Disks ($30, I believe).

Best of luck with your new tablet!

    Thanks for the info.
Luckily, the original owner found the HDD cable, Rubber Bumper and stylus so I will have them shortly.

I still need to get a SSD. Will I be able to tell what type of drive that I need just from looking at the OEM cable?
Also - is there any way to do an install of windows 7 without first using the recover discs mentioned in the post above?

Before I found out that he sent these items, I went ahead and ordered the Axiotron Studio Pen.
I'll give an update on how it works with the LE1700 when I get everything up and running.

    Thanks!

Great that you don't have to source those items yourself!

If you search for SSD on this site you should find plenty of info about Renice and other SSDs that people have used. As long as it is the right size (1.8") and ZIF, you should be fine.

  5. Default Motion HDD flex Toshiba cable

    Hi RatFink.

If you wanted a zif cable to install an SSD I do have one. (P/N 71BP1036002) I bought it last year when I picked up a Renice K3vlar SSD from Allegiance. (Which I highly recommend the Renice and Allegiance!) As it turns out I didn't need it and just kept it in case I bought another LE1700. I'd part with it real cheap. Lmk! Wish you the best with your Motion!
