Thread: Toshiba M200 and Win8

  1. Cool Toshiba M200 and Win8

Has anyone any experience in installing Win8 on the m200?
I really want to try it and as i still have problems with Win7 on the m200 i thought - maybe, just maybe i'll try win8.
If anyone can assist with any help i'd greatly apprechiate it.

So Win8 installs pretty easy - to install it just create a new partition, extract the win8 iso to that partition and start setup.exe
    Runs ok
A little weird to get adjusted to the new behavior of windows
As far as I was able to check it almost all hardware did install automatically(except the sd card reader)
I had a bit trouble getting the stilus to work - it worked from the beginning but then somehow stopped
Win8 on the m200 is a bit laggy (i guess the 1.6ghz is finally at it's end)
Now I will go back to winxp

What problems were you having with your Win7 install?

Well I alsways had the feeling that Win7 was on the m200 a bit slow (just a tad slower than win xp) especially if you had certain software in use.
And of course I didn't get all the required features to run:
    - no dimming of the display (if you need every second of that battery like I do, not being able to change the brightness is just a pain)
    - no autorotation (whatever I did i never could get it to work under win7)
    - no hibernation (didn't get that to work either)
    - Buttons didn't work
    - the fn buttons had no function whatsoever
    - and then again the speed was not my friend so to say

What i do miss from win7 is the handwriting recognition - that was way better in win7 than in winxp the feature that it adds another line to write in as soon as you come to the end of the current line is probably the one i miss the most

Win8 was a bit laggy (really just a tad maybe even better than win7) But since i use this computer at university i can not have an os which is not finished

Slightly slower, Okay I'll give you that. There's obviously more going on behind the scenes. I'm willing to trade that last 'nth of speed for the improved handwriting recognition. Everything else works just fine, once you have all the appropriate device specific utilities to make the buttons work. You might have a look at the post just before yours --> http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/showthread.php?38773-Can-t-rotate-M200-screen-with-Windows-7-my-screen-rotation-button-does-nothing-(

Evetything on your list works just fine. The only remaining issue I have with Win7 is that there are no Nvidia drivers available that make Aero work without crashing other more important functions.
