Thread: M1400 into Wacom Cintiq

    Default M1400 into Wacom Cintiq

    Hey Gang.

Haven't posted on here for a while. How's things?

I recently managed to get a HP Touchpad in the firesale. As a result my, hugely hacked (read no good to anyone but me), Motion 1400 tablet is no longer required. My brother is a budding CGI artist and has been drooling over the Cintiq line of Wacom tablets since he first saw them!

I have a bit of knowledge to share and some questions to ask. I plan on using the wacom digitizer and screen without the rest of the tablet. This will involve converting the LCD, which I am assuming is LVDS, into VGA (unlikely, since this would require analogue to digital conversion) or DVI (more likely, digital to digital). The digitizer is, I believe, serial, I'd like to convert this to usb. This will all have to be done through converter boards (maybe even arduinos or custom designed boards!)

So a couple of questions, can anyone confirm (or dismiss) my assumption that the screen is LVDS and the digitizer is Serial. Better yet does someone have pinouts (really doubt it but worth asking!)

Also, before I get any "this can't be done" posts, it is possible, serial to usb shouldn't be a problem and LVDS to DVI/VGA has been done a couple of times. I understand that this will be a HUGE project requiring a lot of learning on my part but what is hacking about if not learning new skills?

    Hope to hear back soon

    Michael

P.S. I have a broken from panel complete with (smashed) screen and (working) digitizer to experiment with.

    UPDATE!

OK I think I'm getting somewhere. I've found an ebay seller who spe******es (random mid-word censorship!) in LVDS to DVI/VGA boards. At their suggestion I've hunted down the spec sheet for the Boe Hydis TFT we have in our beloved m1400 found here: http://www.beyondinfinite.com/lcd/Li...ai/HT12X21.pdf looks like it does use a standard LVDS interface, which was pleasantly surprising since Motion has so many proprietary connectors in this tablet (I'm looking at you hard drive cable!). Hopefully the ebay seller has a compatible board.

I could still do with some help on the digitizer front. I need confirmation that it is serial and the pinouts would be very useful. :-)

    UPDATE 2

Right, The seller (njytouch) has looked over the spec sheet and suggested this board:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Controll...item415d2eac04
I've ordered one which worked out at £19 (with free international shipping, so expect an update in 6 or 7 years!). They said they've never tested this panel before but now that they have the spec sheet they can do the custom programming on the controller board to make it work so I'm hopeful.

At the very least my brother will end up with a second monitor so that's good.

I'm going to start looking into the digitizer next so stay tuned.

    Any luck with it?
The DC connector on my M1400 broke, and if I can't replace it (had some hard time with actually getting one, bit pricy, plus it won't come off the board so easily), I would like to make the same you did - only sending image through USB, if possible (like, a display-cloning projector station).
