Thread: Can't rotate M200 screen with Windows 7 - my screen rotation button does nothing :-(

Question Can't rotate M200 screen with Windows 7 - my screen rotation button does nothing :-(

I've looked on the Toshiba site, but didn't see any Windows 7 drivers for the M200. (grrrrr!)

I can't find anything on Windows 7 forums.

Do you think this is a driver issue? Hardware issue?

    Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the land of "You're still using one of those!" Me too, and still beats the pants off most of what sits on display at Best Buy.

Win7 on the M200 is great. Been using it for several years that way. With the right drivers and utilities the rotation works just the same as it always did.

Support for the M200 stopped at Vista, but many of those drivers are cross compatible.

Question lost on the Toshiba site...

For the life of me, I cannot find the "m200 vista driver pack" on the Toshiba site. One of the Toshiba site search results I got was for "Windows Vista and Toshiba computers - drivers, BIOS, and other information." Great! I thought. But the link takes me to a Toshiba support start page - a window within a window rabbit hole! This happens with both Firefox and Explorer.

If I try to search for downloads using the drop-down boxes for category (Laptops), family (Portege), and model (M200),
then refine the results by selecting "Windows Vista" from the Operating System dropdown, I get one result - some DVD update.

    Lost in the Twilight Zone...

What method do you use to locate the Toshiba files for downloading?

    Thanks!!!

I don't think there's a complete package you can download. You just need to go through the list page by page and grab all the pieces you need. (Look at my screen capture and get the right version numbers). If there's no Vista driver then go with the XP driver.

Update: WhooHoo - screen rotation now works! I chose and installed "nvidia 97.54 for windows vista 32bit" based on the info here:

    h--p://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/showthread.php?36590-M200-Windows-7-Drivers-amp-Issues

Added bonus: text looks better - more crisp!

Oddly enough, the rotation button does not work, but is not required. If I rotate and snap/lock the screen into tablet mode, the display changes to tablet style, regardless of orientation with respect to gravity, and without pressing the rotation button. But it is all good. If I want one of the other two of the four screen orientations, I can use the iRotate utility:

    Thanks so much.

Please disregard the following "old news":

"The rotation utility is installed, but my rotate button still doesn't work. Could I need a different video card driver? I now have this installed:

    Generic Non-PnP Monitor
    Microsoft
    6/21/2006
    v6.1.7600.16385

Should I instead be using a driver from nVidia? What driver is working for you?"

    Thanks!

You should be able to change the auto-rotate orientation (in the toshiba rotation utility) and the rotation button orientation sequence (from start->control panel>tablet pc settings>"go to orientation"). The M200 does have an accelerometer but it's not an automatic thing. You hold the device in in the orientation you want and then hold down the rotation button for a couple seconds and the display will flip to the correct direction.

Driver Version: I'll have to look later but that's definitely the thread I would have pointed you to. Video driver issues are why I finally had to retire mine to livingroom duty and upgraded to a 2700 series Elitebook for the office.
