Thread: Asus Eee tablet Question

  1. Default Asus Eee tablet Question

If I'm in the wrong section, I apologize. I didn't see a section for Asus and I'm not sure if my question relates to Asus hardware or Win7.

My first tablet PC was a Toshiba M400, running XP. When I rotated the screen to tablet mode, screen orientation would change. The Asus has Win 7 Premium, but requires a button push to do the same thing. Is the difference in the included hardware? Or is it an OS issue? If it's the OS, is there third party software to deal with that?

    thanks,
    Bill

I don't think any of the eee line of tablets have an accelerometer in them. I had an eee-91t for a while, and it did not rotate automatically. The screen rotation is done in software, and there may be a setting that will change the orientation of the screen when closed in tablet mode. But, as I remember from the one I had, Asus intended it to be used in landscape mode, as all of their custom touch software wants to run that way.

Thanks for the info, Michelle. It's kind of what I figured. But it never hurts to ask.

Is there software that will rotate to a particular position if run? About the only thing I use tablet mode for is church or writing notes with a Bible program and my note taking program open, portrait orientation, Bible at the top of the screen, notes at the bottom. I loved the version of OneNote that came with my old Toshiba. The newer version on the Asus doesn't seem to be as easy to work with. So, since I use Evernote for almost everything else, I've switched to it for handwritten notes, as well.

I was using my t91 for the same purpose! I found using Evernote in landscape mode actually worked well for keeping my hand off the screen. What version of OneNote do you have now? I was using OneNote 2010 on an Archos 9, and also found that keeping things in landscape mode worked the best for me. I just kept it and e-Sword open full screen and switched between the two using the taskbar icons.

My OneNote is 2010, also. It works OK, but there's something about it that just doesn't seem as Bill friendly as the older version.

I got used to the portrait orientation with the Toshiba. It just felt more like what I'd do having a hardcopy Bible and notebook. It allows keeping the full Bible open & just enough space in the notes area to be able to go back if I want to recheck something.

One issue I found is that opening something in portrait mode, then closing it, would force the same sizing in landscape. Not my favorite thing with e-Sword because of all the resources I have and access in it. I found another Bible program called TheWord that has the book navigation column, plus the Bible window. It seems to have a lot of resources, too, like e-Sword. But I don't need all of that in more than one program. Anyway, I keep that for portrait use with Evernote.
