...Clever, but there is no real resemblance from a legal point of view. One may not like Apple, but one has to give them credit for what they've done...

Sure, if Apple had made the mistake of adding a hardware keyboard, making the ipad two times as thick as it is, used metal look-alike plastic, added a huge, noisy fan, a digitizer, an extra stone for weight, made the screen half as dimm and ran Windows on it, HP could have had a chance of suing Apple.
What they did was take the tablet format and made it into something successful, whether you like it or not. Sales figures speak truth. HP aknowledged this now and probably got sick of trying to catch up and only manage to compete with the others who try to catch up.

I am not arguing against that Apple made the slate a viable tool (which always was the way I used the TC1000).
I never liked how companies kept adding fixed keyboards (because the reviewers missed them while typing there reviews? a lot of those early reviews lamented about that).

I do not like how Apple go's after Samsung (and now others also) in the EU based on it 'looking' the same and how it does that.
If you look at some of the drawings Apple submitted, the TC1X00 in slate mode would fit the 'looks alike' better then the Galaxy Tab, as the TC1X00 is 4x3 the Galaxy is 16x10.
A 16x10 I do not normally use in protrait mode so its very different to me. Although the Archos 10.1 inch (which is 16x9) I could hold with one hand in protrait.
As said before: any 7"-10" picture display frame would fit that 'looks alike' also (and some where there way before the iPads)

W'll see what the judges have to say about it.

It's not the form factor only they go against.

Lucky them, because all the 'form factor' parts where dismissed by the judge, only the way the bounce is used in the foto galary display was honored.

Meaning: only 3 smartphones are effected (and might require a small update) none if the tabs are.

In Germany the galaxy tab is affected as well, though today is another hearing about that
