Thread: After 7 years... replacing my M200

  1. Question After 7 years... replacing my M200

I had a M200 for quite a while now (since 2003) and it still runs with Win7 but it is a bit slow even though i upgraded ram etc.
Now I am looking for a convertible tablet. If there would be a m200 with just newer hardware and a better battery life I would buy it right now (my battery life is around 2 hours which is by far to little for me)
I changed a lot on my m200 as i loved it: the screen cover (broke once after i dropped the pc) the ram, the wificard. I got the docking station bought a spare pen - in short I was and probably still am in love with my m200.
    What am I looking for:
I don't need any finger/touchscreen input. I want to write with a pen - if there is an option which turns the touchinput off as long as i write with the pen i would be fine with that - as you can see i haven't been into the new models for a long long time.)
Given that I want to write with a pen I want the same comfort I had with the M200 - senistivity and all. And of course the pen should be stored within the body of the computer - just like the m200.
I do not necessarily need an optical drive.
I want to run Win7 on it (maybe Win8) but i guess every convertible tablet does that.
I would love a WAN option - not necessity but a nice to have feature. (do not confuse with WLAN/WIFI that is a necessity)
As I said I want a long lasting battery - I am a medical student and I do not always have the time and space to recharge the tablet. 5-6 hours would be great - nothing under 4 hours!
I do not want a mirror screen I want a screen which i can read of whenever whereever I want to.
I don't care about the weight too much but it should be under 5 kilos(~pounds) ;)
I want a unit which works simply works just like the m200 did.
I don't need a fancy gpu but would prefer something a little bit more powerful than the intel on board solutions.

I don't have any time pressure what so ever if you tell me there is a model which fits all my needs and more which comes out in 2012 i am totally fine with that. I want to know what there is now and what there is to come.
Price is not that much of a problem but if it would cost zero bucks then i'd order 2 ;)
I am sure that i forgot something - if i will remember i will add it.

Anyways if anyone has an idea please let me know.
    I thank you guys!
(If someone mocks my english - well i am sorry but as a non native speaker i think i got my points across.)

I understand completely. The M200 series was way ahead of its time. Powerful, stylish and durable with an enviable high resolution screen. If I could upgrade mine any further I would. It's unfortunate that Toshiba has ceded the business market to other manufacturers and is trying to curry favor the entertainment slate crowd.

My vote for going forward: HP 2700 series Elitebook.

They are nearly the same size and weight. Decent battery life with the option of the add-on slice battery for more run time. From a purist standpoint the display screens may not have the absolute best color reproduction but they have a very nice non-glossy surface that doesn't show every reflection and fingerprint. Wacom digitizer for excellent pen function. Available WWAN slot for cell network connectivity. 2740p and 2760p models also have option for multi-touch finger input. if you don't require touch input, the 2730p model can be purchased for very reasonable prices now.

    Thank you for your response.
I took a look at it and it is quite what I am looking for. Also the price is ok.
On Engadget I just saw the Dell Latitude XT3 (http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/06/d...-spins-around/)
can anyone tell me anything about this computer?
The HP is an option for sure. I somehow - and i can not explain why - got stomach aches when thinking about hp laptops - is the quality as good as the toshiba?
I mean I bought the Toshiba in 2003 - it still works (it's slow but works)
In the meantime I had other portable Computers as well.
    A Medion - had a mainboard issue...
An Asus - worked - still does - but the case is falling apart (and it is 2 years younger than the toshiba)
I hope I got my point across.
But maybe my fear is unreasonable - I will read tests about the HP. From the specs it is for sure a great machine.
How about the Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1?

ze: Watch this video. You'll know about as much as any of us know until the XT3 web page gets fully fleshed out:

    Also, see:

XT3 deliveries are reputed to be in November.

You didn't mention an upgrade of the HD to SSD. That may help performance if it's a non-CPU related performance issue.

I've gone back to the trusty old M200 until I am forced to move from it. I have a faster Toashiba M7 but it's too big for use as a portable tablet for me. It's more of a use at the desk type of tablet.
    Currently using a Motion M1400
