Thread: Toshiba M200 power on beep codes ?

Default Toshiba M200 power on beep codes ?

    Hi,

I was using my M200 and suddenly the keyboard seemed to stop working properly. I restarted Windows (XP as supplied) and could not log in using the keyboard but had to resport to the onscreen keyboard.

I have reset the bios to default parameters, both from the Toshiba utility and from the bios boot screen but to no avail. The machine boots up now giving multiple fast beeps in 3 groups, too many and to fast to count but the groups are several seconds apart.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the Toshiba beep codes, or if anyone knows what I should try next I'd be grateful for any pointers ? I presume the keyboard has died but does anyone here know how easy/difficult it is to fix ?

    Thanks,

    Boo

    Default Bad keyboard?

Usually keyboards fail one or two keys at a time. Not all at once. Maybe a key failed in the pressed down position?

They are easy to change though. Gently unsnap the plastic trim strip that's just above the keyboard. Remove a couple screws and the keyboard should lift up and out. There's a ribbon cable underneath with one of the slide open 'zero insertion force' (ZIF) connectors. That's it.

I was never able to find a list of beep codes either.

Thanks, it was the keyboard. Can anyone tell me where I can get a replacement (ideally brand new) for an M200, can Toshiba supply them ?

    Thanks again,

    Boo

    Default keyboard replacement

If you can still get them from Toshiba you will certainly pay a premium for it.

I would start with Ebay and Amazon. If that doesn't pan out for you then try the laptop repair parts sites.
