Thread: New Motion LE1700 UVA Running HOT!!!

  1. Default New Motion LE1700 UVA Running HOT!!!

    Hey guys! I'm new to the forum as I've just picked up a new Ultra ViewAnywhere LE1700 that was supposedly a test rig from a review company. So far I LOVE the machine but I'm wondering what kind of temps you guys are getting. Mine is pushing as high as 77oC (170oF) for the processors and the back is VERY hot! Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way of cooling them down? Reapplying thermal paste on the processor? Any info would be awesome! Thanks!

    ...My first reaction is that your LE1700 shouldn't be anywhere near that hot. A couple of questions;

    <> What are you doing when it gets that hot; that is what application(s) is running?
    <> Can you tell if the cooling fan is running or not?

    Hello! Thanks for the reply.

    The first time it hit that temp I was watching a youtube vid full screen with a couple excel sheets open and outlook. The second time I was just doing a virus scan.

    Also the fan does run all the time blowing air out of it consistently so it doesn't seem plugged at all...

    If it's a newer device do you think the thermal compound hasn't been set in yet? What temps are you getting? Thanks!

    ...Nope; unless your LE1700 was misassembled, the thermal management system should be working at full capacity from day one.

    ...And during these episodes, the exhaust air is hot, yes...?

    Regardless of anything else that you might be doing, I would suggest that you contact Motion Tech Support and discuss the particulars with them. This might be normal (i've had computers heat up during virus checks, too), but it would be best to get their take on this as well as to have documentation of your problem in place in case anything goes wrong in the future...

    PS: What app or window are you using for the CPU temperatures?

    Hello!

    Yes the fans are running all the time. I ran the Microsoft essentials program a couple times to see how the temps changed. On the third run the temps were lower around 70oC peaking at 75oC.

    I did email Motion to find out what the temps are supposed to be. Hopefully I'll get a response soon.

    For monitoring I use HW monitor. It picks up 10 sensors, both processors and the HDD temp. Thanks again for all your input!

    I'd be checking the vent- sounds like dander is clogging the exhaust port for the cooling fins- this is a common problem in ALL laptops. You can blow it out and see how much dander is in there- but be careful- if it's packed with dander and such it can disable the fan if the stuff clogs the blades- then you need to pull it apart to clear it. Mine runs a bit hot too- but I don't have the exact temps- will have to check as I know the cooling fins are clear...
