Default XP versus Win 7 on a le1700- what do I get?

    So,
I've been running Win7 Pro 32 bit on my 1700. Handwriting recog is much much better of course, but battery life sucks. 1.5 hrs with a newly purchased new battery.

I had XP Tablet on a 1600. Clearly handwriting recog was not as good. But battery life on my 1600 was much much better than my 1700 which came running Win7. Almost double the life.

So, I've been pondering running XP on my 1700. I mean, they advertised this thing as getting 3 hrs on the standard battery, so that makes me think it must actually get that on XP Tablet. Right????? I'd lose the impressive handwriting recog improvements, but I find input with the pen, even on Win7, still a chore. I'm actually thinking about getting the snap on keyboard just for when I'm using it to browse at a desk. As for areoglass, I've been stripping down Win7 to get some sort of battery life, so I'm not using any of those nice new details.

If I'm disregarding handwriting recog, and I'm turning off areoglass and whatnot, then what am I getting with Win7 that I didn't have with XP? Would XP serve me just as well? I'm doing some surfing, and mostly art stuff- Sketchbook Pro, Artrage, maybe Painter, etc. And, of course, the million dollar question- do you actually get more battery life running XP on the le1700?

I have both XP and W7 on my LE1700. I haven't done real research, but I think there was no essential difference in battery time that I would notice. I use W7 most of the time, even when I have to spare battery time.

The different battery time of LE1600 and LE1700 is mainly due to the processor (and LCD screen) used. Core Duo-s take more power than old Pentium mobile-s. It also depends on which processor do you have, is is low voltage or ultra low voltage.

I just got a 1700 the other day with xp, and Ive been. Blown away by the difference. Not only am I getting 50% more battery life (2:30 vs. 1:40 on the standard battery) but my CPU I'd running 15-20 degrees Celsius cooler. Xp isn't as responsive, and it boots slowe, no doubt, but I'm also seeing some very clear benefits.

I can't believe it. Most likely, you just got 1700 with single core ultralow voltage processor, which does run cooler, but not 15-20 C cooler than 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo.

`Well, you're right I did the test run again yesterday and it was only 10 cooler, not 15-20. Still, 10° is 10° cooler. A pretty big improvement to me, from uncomfortable to usable. Battery life was still 2:30 on the standard battery.

    Edit:
I was checking the run time using battery bar. And it does appear it's a core2duo, although one of them was being underclocked to 1.0 ghz by the "max battery" power plan on xp. I posted a pic over in the motion computing forum of the processors.
