So I do not have to purchase it separately? The stylus that comes with the tablet is a ritePen, or I purchase it from Motion?
I can't get Motion help to respond. I'm a stranger in a strange land with all of this.

    Default who's who

The stylus is an integral part of the tablet hardware. Peanut butter and jelly, Abbott and Costello. Just the way the scribes intended before all this touchy feely business got going around and they became "optional".

It's actually a Wacom manufactured stylus (often rebranded or customized to suit a particular manufacturer or device). Aside from the external appearance they are mostly the same inside and interchangeable/compatible with other Wacom active digitizers. (Radiologist was startled when I walked up to his new Cintiq display and was able to swish it around with my 7 year old Toshiba stylus. ) See Michelle's video for other types of stylus...stylii?...-->http://www.youtube.com/user/violajac.../0/n64J49idpJw

Rite-pen (RiteScribe) is a software company that saw an opportunity and a niche and stepped in to fill the need.

Motion Computing has set themselves up as a Rite-Pen reseller to help promote the product as this is something that is of interest to many of their customers.

You can also get the software directly from the producer. http://www.ritescript.com/products/ritePen.aspx

disclaimer: no financial interest, just a happy customer.

    thanks pmatulew,

I'm slowly but surely getting this stuff. I thought if I bought the car ( motion J3500 ) it would come with the steering wheel and a guide to inform me about everything this thread is advanced hand holding me through. Thanks for all the clarification. I'm off to NY to settle my daughter in to her freshmen dorm, but look forward to coming back and digging in with all this invaluable info.

Thanks digitaldoc for referring me to this post. I work for Evernote, the publisher of ritePen, and wanted to add a few words about J3500, ritePen and its use by doctors.

ritePen is popular among doctors; more than a few large hospitals, healthcare networks and life science companies have anywhere from 100 to 500 licenses each installed on their personnel's Tablet PCs. When we are asking customers about their reasons to use ritePen on Windows tablets where the embedded TIP works quite well, we are hearing five key motives: (1) full-screen transparent writing that doesn't obstruct screen contents (by far the most important reason); (2) consistent input into any application/document, including some legacy EMR systems where TIP doesn't work, web forms, better treatment of Excel data entry (compared with TIP), etc.; (3) compatibility with RDP and Citrix networks, whether ritePen works on the client (preferred) or on the server side; we've invested quite some time optimizing ritePen for remote apps; (4) many people like pen macros (ink commands) to automate their workflow and desktop control; and (5) when Tablet PC is used in slate mode and keyboard isn't accessible, ritePen's full-screen gestures (Enter, Space, Backspace, Undo, Tab, etc.) are becoming handy.

We are working with Motion Computing for many years and they are currently reselling ritePen to their end users and channel. Recent release ritePen 4.0.42 is optimized for J3500 and its utilities (such as screen rotation utility).

    Thank you for listening.

Hi Chris, I have been using rite pen, which I appreciate and really like, but i still find multiple spelling errors and content being entered in the middle of a paragraph when i 'd intended it to be at the end. I wish i could find someone who could do some one on one training with me using my J3500 and rite pen. They still are not allowing me a seamless interface with my patients while I am working and it is not the time saver I'd hoped for. I get preoccupied and the notes are not effective. Still frustrated, but really pleased with all the help I have gotten from this site. Thanks.
