Thread: Ultraview Motion LE1700 Screens... HELP!!

  1. Default Ultraview Motion LE1700 Screens... HELP!!

    Hi everybody!

I have in my possession TWO Motion LE1700 ViewAnywhere SXGA+s with cracked screens.

I have been reading all of the blogs and forums about tint color, Toshiba vs Hydis, ...

It seems (correct me if I am wrong) that the way to go is get an Ultraview screen with a black tint.

However, no one advises where to buy such a screen from. All of the sellers offering LE1700 screens make no mention of any of this information.

    Help please!
Tablet I have owned...and how much I enjoyed them:

I just found this thread on TabletPCReview.Com:

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/moti...upgrade-4.html

It helps. I have also heard the this is a place to get the screen from (though you can also search for the part # on ebay):

I have an email into the Bliss Computers sales department to see if the screen has the ARcoated glass screen,

    About Matte Finish LCD screens

Non Glossy LCD with standard finish.

Traditional Anti-Glare LCD Screen. About SXGA+ Resolution

Before wide-angle screens were introduced, SXGA+(1400 x 1050) was a step higher resolution than XGA(1024 x 768). Most of the Laptops which came with XGA resolution had an upgrade option to upgrade a screen to SXGA/SXGA+ resolution. But once the Laptop is configured to the purchased resolution, upgrading or downgrading that resolution, is not recommended or warrantied by us.
    Interesting find.

    Wow. Thanks Wiggy.

Sounds intense! I looked at the screen.

    1) Should I go with Matte or Glossy? Not sure what the advantages of either are with regard to a tablet.

    2) This cable thing sounds difficult. The most I have ever done to a tablet is swapped hard drives. This screen switch and "cable creating" sounds way out of my league. Is the cable thing necessary?

    More about the cable.

So, one has to manufacture the cable at home ... It is unlikely Motion will sell one or be helpful in any way. People who upgraded Thinkpads actually made the proper cable themselves, so we also should be able to.

Post #7 in this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85520
indicates that the (only?) difference between -100 and -101 screen is that the former has the glass (?) writing surface glued to the metal borders of the screen (hence, it is removable), while -101 has it glued to the screen.

This post #43 indicates that -101 is thicker than -100:

Added2: Here I found a how to upgrade an old G4 12" Powerbook with XGA screen to Hydis SXGA+ screen.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/P...upgrade/3117/1

It's remarkable that one needs no BIOS hack and LCD cable replacement in order to make SXGA+ screen work on Powerbook!
