Thread: Broken power switch

    Default Broken power switch

The power switch on my LE 1700 has broken.

Having disassembled it, the problem seems to be mechanical (I can flip the switch on the motherboard with a screwdriver, but the case's power switch does not seem to be making any contact at all).

I see an entry on the "Most Frequent Motion Repair Issues" sticky, but it seems to be referencing a link that is no longer there.

Searching the forums turned up this:
    tabletpcbuzz.com/showthread.php?t=36301

Is that the reference in question?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated

That thread is strictly about horrible design failure of M series Motion tablets. It may or may not relate directly to 1700 design.

However, if it is similar in any way, be forewarned towards manipulating motherboard switch directly without extreme caution handling.

I have taken mine apart to do some maintenance, and looked at the switch. It looks like a power switch from a PSP2000 will work-no guarantees though. I didn't take any measurements with my DMM to determine the switch's continuity in it's "off" and "on" settings.

Had I done that, I'd be able to confirm whether a PSP power switch would work.

Perhaps once the switch is desoldered, a part number might be branded or stamped to the switch.

I bet the switch can be found on Digi-Key:

    http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...ll?Cat=1114211

Under Termination Style, select "SMD (SMT) Tab."

I don't have the time right now to look for it, but apparently it's a 3 pad/2 contact switch. It'd be great to find out the "Circuit" and "Switch Function" type of the switch (with a DMM) so the results could be narrowed down to the correct one.
