Thread: Help me, I've fallen to Internet Explorer...

  1. Default Firefox super customizable for touch (or anything else)

I think Firefox wins on all levels (except top performance which chrome currently has). since you can totally customize all aspects of firefox via plugins and editing the css file, you can totally tailor it. I made my super touch friendly.

i think firefox is the best browser for a tablet pc just because it's so customizable in every aspect of the user interface.

I enlarged the address bar and search bar for easy finger selection via changes to the userchrome.css file.

I pulled the address/search bars down to a separate line to increase the length of the bars.

I used the nonsquint plugin to increase the size of the hyperlinks so that it's easy to select with fingers.

I used the grab and drag plugin so you can scroll the web page like an ipad.

I adjusted the windows 7 scrollbars to make the scrollbars easily grabbable with fingers so that scrolling is super easy.

I also increased the size of the font and menus in windows 7 so that I didn't need a stylus to pick choices like file, edit, etc.

I pinned the on-screen keyboard to the taskbar for easy typing (no idea why Microsoft has 2 separate keyboards and put the inferior keyboard in the input panel and hid the superior on-screen keyboard away).

I also installed the inscribe keyboard to have a swype keyboard that works great with fingers. the best part of inscribe is that it's totally customizable in both the keys used and the shape of the keyboard. I created a super funky keyboard with all the keys I like.

    Try Pale Moon

alright, just finished trying out Pale Moon.

As a basic web browsing experience, I think Pale Moon is great. It does seem faster than Firefox but I didn't benchmark it so I have no idea if whether this is a placebo effect or whether the speed is actually better. but it looks good so far.

But some of the things they disabled to make it faster also breaks a lot of firefox extensions. All the image grabbing utilities I have don't work in Pale Moon (imagegrabber, imagehost grabber, pixlr grabber). Personas and its accessories (Expressions, etc.) don't work.

I'm going to use Pale Moon on my dad's old PC (a Pentium 4) and keep Firefox for the newer machines. Plugins are the reason why Firefox is better than the other browsers (though I wish Firefox was as fast as Chrome and Chrome's plugins are severely lacking at this point).

Okay, I did a little hands-on investigation. Some of the plugins will work again if you have an empty userchrome.css file such as tabmix plus and woot watcher. The minute you make a change (such as increasing the size of the font), those plugins break. This behavior isn't seen in Firefox.

most tablets -internet explorer, i use 7/8 mostly, but only if i have to..
    no drag/grab scroll addons..

nokia n810, motion computing ls800 - opera 11.5 (maemo 2008,windows 7) using grab scroll option
and fit to width works well on smaller screens

fujitsu 5112,nec versa litepad - chrome 12 (windows xp) with grab scroll addon, works well, low
memory requirements.. but i don't trust the privacy stuff..

firefox 1.5 used to my main browser, but i gave up after the huge bloat,
bad interfaces,etc..even with addons.. now with all the crazy updates i just
ignore them.. if someone ever comes out with a light browser i might check
    it out...

The A100 is running Android and will not run IE. Try Dolphin Browser HD to get closer to a desktop experience, but you will not get IE.
