Default Hello all. I bought my TC1K with the WLAN bui

    Hello all.

    I bought my TC1K with the WLAN built-in. I have installed driver version 1.00D (SP23026). I have a DLINK BEFW11S4 V2 wireless hub/router at home.

At home, I have had many of the similar problems that people are describing: dropped connections, flashing WLAN lights, etc. However, at work, I rarely have this problem. So, rather than bitch about the internal WLAN card, I am asking for advice on configuring my home WLAN.

I recorded the following settings on my Tablet:

    802.11 Power Mgmt: Disabled
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2346
    RTS Threshold: 2347
    Preamble: Auto
    Radio: On
    Rate: Auto
    Region: Canada

    and on the WAP:

    Beacon Interval: 100ms
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2346
    RTS Threshold: 2432
    DTIM Interval: 3
    Basic Rates: 1-2Mbps (default)
    TX Rates: 1-2-5.5-11Mbps (default)
    Authentication: Both (default)
    Antenna Selection: Default (default)
    MAC filter: Disable

    Questions:

    1. Should the RTS thresholds be set the same? My Tablet won't let me set it beyond the current value of 2347; should I back off the number on my WAP to match?

    2. What is the beacon interval and DTIM interval, and what effect might changing these have?

    3. I've heard the antenna in the TC1K referred to as a diversity antenna; should I have "diversity spread on" selected instead of "Default" antenna? Other choices are "left spread on" and "right spread on".

    4. What is MAC filtering for? Does this allow me to specify only certian MAC addresses which can access the WAP?

    5. Is there anything else I should be looking at to try to get more consistent behaviour from the WLAN at home?

    6. I also have the following symptoms when I connect, which I find strange; does anyone else see these?
    - My connection status dialog NEVER shows the correct connection time. Just now, it showed 3:47:48 a few seconds after connecting.
    - The XP "balloon" which pops up to tell you you're connected almost never displays the correct Signal Strength. It will connect as "Low" 4 feet from the WAP, and when you check the Status dialog, it has 4 bars.

Thanks, all! Although this is my first post, I have found this forum to be an excellent source of info. Keep it coming!

I can't help with these specific settings. There are great sites that have details on this information. I know you are a D-Link customer, but the Linksys web site has some good whitepapers on this subject.

However, you might want to check this thread out:

    http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...?TOPIC_ID=3903

They mention that the latest wireless drivers for the TC1000 install support for something that the D-Link WAP or Router can't handle. There are several work-a-rounds / solutions mentioned in the thread. I hope this helps,

I was having a lot of problems with the d-link wireless router and switched to a belkin wireless router. Still had problems with getting a connection at all. The wireless connection said I had excellent strength, but could not get access the internet more often than not. I exhausted the help from d-link and then belkin without a solution. I finally contacted HP. They said to download the odessey client (23034) http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/17818.html

from the website and install it. I did it. Works flawlessly. I do not know enough about wireless networks to tell you why, but you may want to look into that possible solution. Good luck.

    Hi,

experience the same problem at a relative's house awhile back.. (sorry, don't have wireless connection @ home)..
When I tried wireless surfing, connection always drop even though I am sitting right infront of the wireless access point... meddled with the wireless properties settings and Disabled the "802.1x authentication ... blah blah" and connection never drop again!

Maybe you can try and see if this helps.

    Good luck.
