Back in the day (circa 1979), I spent many Saturdays at the Philadelphia Area Computer Society. This was a bunch of (mostly) guys who built computers using any kind of parts they could find. Dumpster diving for parts was considered a rite of passage.

I thought the practice of taking stuff apart and figuring out how to make it better was long dead. Not so...
