    Default M200 Windows 7 Drivers & Issues [updated 27.05.2009]

    Situation:
    ----------------------------------------
I recently bought a used Toshiba M200 convertible as replacement for my home pc.

    Specs:
    CPU: Centrino 1.6 Ghz
    RAM: 2048 MB (shipped with 2x 512mb)
HDD: 160 GB Seagate (shipped with 40 gb Toshiba drive)
WLAN: TP-Link TL-WN961N (3x3 MIMO N-Draft had to insert a antenna) (shipped with intel 2100bg)
Dockingstation: Advanced Multidock 3 with build slimline usb DVD-Reader/cd-writer: Teac DW-224E
    ------------------------------------------------------
the Multidock 3 Dockingstation is connected with my second screen with 1680x1050 resolution
and a backup usb Fujitsu Siemens case with build in 500 GB seagate HDD.
    and usb Keyboard,Mice,bluethooth MSI stack.
    ----------------------------------------------------

I took 2 hours to install windows 7 from a DVD-RW in the Dockingstation.
Best drivers I Found for Windows 7 Build 7100 RC

    ------------------------
    NVIDA Graphic driver:
    ####################################
For users witch need the multimonitor support use:

    Nvidia 67.42 XP driver http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/67.42
is for me the best i set the "RotateFlag," in the modified
nv4dispd.inf file from 4 to 0x40 and now.
    Pros
    -hibanate
    -sleep
    -rotation
-the second screen is working without any problem!
    -backlite turns off with screen
    Cons
-no AERO ?!? not tested I don't think it can perform good wih 2 highres-screens enabled...

Nvidia 96.65: h**p://de.download.nvidia.com/Windows/96.85/96.85_forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql.ex e (you have to set the rotation flag to 0x40)
    Pros: -Multimonitor support
    -Rotation
    -OpenGL works...
    Cons:
    -
    Power save
-Hibernation mode dosen't work. Driver fails if you try to wake it up, you can see and move the cursor but screens are staying black... you can see how windows trys to restart the driver after 2-3 attemps you get a bluescreen telling something about nvlddmkm.sys

Nvidia 97.19 (not needed to set the rotation flag)
    Pros:
    -Multimonitor support
    -Rotation
    Cons:
    -
OpenGL seemsto not work anymore... (Ultrastar)
    -
Power save and Hibernation mode dosen't work. Driver fails if you try to wake it up, you can see and move the cursor but screens are staying black... you can see how windows trys to restart the driver after 2-3 attemps you get a bluescreen telling something about nvlddmkm.sys

    ####################################
users which don't need the support for the second screen i would recommend the Nvidia 97.54 driver for better Aero, Sleep & Hibernate support

    Toshiba 97.52 h**p://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/display-20070912152010.zip
    Pros:
    -
    Rotation,
    -
    Hibernate and
    -
    Sleep works
    Cons:
-if second screen is activated internal screen dosen't work until new driver installation or reboot without external screen.
Sleep requires a change in brightness (the screen does not wake up, unless you change the brightness post wakeup, thus a possible plug-in-out of power).

nvidia 97.54 for windows vista 32bit (Flashed2000) h**p://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12408 (need modded inf)
    Pros:
    -Hibernate works perfectly

    -Rotation,
    -
Aero works on full resolution pretty well (with transparency disabled), but a rare occasions you get a flicker a couple times a day, except if you have many windows open (namely more than three separate windows), then it get much more frequent by the load), but defiantly much less flickers than 97.52 at full resolution

    Cons:
-Sleep requires a change in brightness (the screen does not wake up, unless you change the brightness post wakeup, thus a possible plug-in-out of power).

    - No dual screen support (one at a time, either the primary or secondary)
    - Brightness control seems to be quite moody, sometimes it appears sometimes doesn’t, am not sure on the relevance of this or if it is affected - need of modded inf

Other Nvidia drivers: All Vista driver over 10X.XX don't work at all (may be you can install one but your screen is filled with a grey field)
all working driver over 97.19 had problems to recognize erxternel and internel monitor, correctly most of the time only one worked(the external). I got the other drivers fron laptopviedeo2go

    ####################################

SD-CardReader: f*p://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38175.exe found HP drivers over UID and google:" HP Secure Digital (SD) Bus Driver 6.0.4069.1 2000" they work without any problem!
I'm using the reader to put files on my 8GB Mircro SDHC class 6 card over a miniSD(TF) to SD-Adapter and it WORKS PERFEKT also in XP with old Toshiba drivers!
    Problems: Nothing

    Working
    Driver/Software from Toshiba:

symb-cmd-de-20090206150143 - Symbol_Commander_v3_de_t (gesture commands) (xp driver, have to be installed with xp compatibility mode)

    other device driver:
    tpdrv-20090302111846 - ALPS touchpad V7.2.303.101 (vista driver)

Rotation & Tablet Buttons: works fine with Tablet pc extension 1.0.0.1
Problems: If Primary Screen is the Extren Monitor the rotation button Rotates the wrong screen.

    ###############################################
cant get to work or missing:
    -----------------------
    Pen/Hover Buttons:
i was unable to install the Toshiba Common Modules for the M200 and Vista even in Vista compatibility mode... (I Like this buttons, they are very useful for scrolling with the pen)Warning: The common Modules from XP (cmod-de-20071114105518) dosen't install the uninstaller in (xp comp.. mode) I lost my rotation funktionallty...
to get it back to work:
i had to uninstall all Toshiba software, then in disabled all still existing toshiba autoruns... after that i reinstalled all Toshiba software (vap, tpcep)...
now it's working again(hard work and still installed old common modules)

As Replacement i wrote a little tool whitch should help with the scrolling on any Tablet running windows. you can find it here: tabletpcbuzz.com/showthread.php?t=36661

    Toshiba Extension manager:
Added the functionallity of the dockingstation. It set the screen resolutions orientation an order if dockingstation is connected... if the eject button on the dockingstation was presst all things connectet to it where ejected.

    Default Nvidia 97.52 and responses

    NVIDIA 97.52
    ----------------------------
    Working:
    Hibernation, Sleeep!!!
    very nice no bluescreens anymore...

    Not Working:
if my external screen is connected while starting windows my internal screen dosen't work anymore... it has gray/white or sometimes colored lines on it. and my external screen gets rotatet because the my M200 is in tablet mode (2 unusable screens from the start)

if i boot wirhout the second screen everything is fine rotation works etc.
but the screen is also a unknown screen!?!? can somone check this please at his m200 ?!?

if i plug in the second screen after windows 7 is started. i can activate it an can use both screens in (clone mode). if i try to extend the desktop to the extern screen or something else, the internal screens shows the nice colored lines again and can't activate it anymore. (propably because its not recogonized correctly)

    Not Testet:
Aero: someone wrote that it should work with the 96.85 but you have to set the screen resolution to 1024x768 because of the small amount of memory (32 MB). I prefere higher resolution, so i don't tink about trying it.

    Responses:

    @skygunner
    Wireless N - Draft N
if you really want wireless N better get this card. TL-WN861N from TP Link it needs only 2 Antennas has also wireless n its only MIMO 2X2. i had it before (wrong delivery) and can't see any performance differences between them, its also cheaper and you dont need to get a antenna.

for the TL-WN961N from TP-Link you have to add an Antenna
i got 2 antenna at ebay for 3 Euro...
they looked like an L it was (was 6 cm with an 0.5 cm high and long) the cable was 35 cm long i thing (better get a longer cable) found a place for it near the hdd in a not fileld hole in the chassie(i think its not the best place) but the original 2 antenna are in the display so the 3. has nothing to do.

Both cards are Atheros cards whitch have great driver support for Windows/Mac OS/Linux !

whats not working with new wireless cards:
    1. You lose the Centrino Logo on start up it shows up an intel Mobile Logo.
    2. The Hardware WLAN switch on the left side enables/disables only the W-Lan LED... disabling wlan over it dosen't work. think its a specific centrino thing.

    PerformanceIndex:
    CPU: 2,9 (centrino 1,7)
    RAM: 4,1 (2048 MB)
    GPU: 1,0 (Both drivers 96,85 and 97,52)
    GPU(games): 2,4 (Both drivers 96,85 and 97,52)
    HDD: 4,7 (160 GB Seagate Momentus 5.3 or 5.2)

    I use Windows 7 Build 7000

    SD-Drivers:
yes simply install the "HP Secure Digital (SD) Bus Driver 6.0.4069.1 2000"
    they work perfectly for me.

    your Rotation Issus:
the driver has the rotationflags set to 0x40? (nv_disp.inf)
you have installed the rotation untility?
have you installed the Vista Value added package from Toshiba for the m200?

    try to run this:
    "C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Rotation Utility\PHTRot.exe"
if the screen rotates then everything above was true...
    else check everything again.

if it rotates go to the Table PC options (i have the german version don't whats standing there in english)

there you have an categorie called "Keys"
there you can define what happens if you press a key...
define the Escape Button on hold to run this application
    "C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Rotation Utility\PHTRot.exe"

    good luck!

    Booting from Dockingstation integrated drive:
Yes, it works very well... its not the fastest but i'm very happy to have it... currently i have a multiboot system with grub as boot loader windows 7,windows xp and kubuntu 9.04 but i'm currently only using windows 7

    Crossmenu:

Crossmenu was an application from Toshiba designed to work well with 4 way navigation buttons on windows XP tablet. (if you press and hold the 4 way button(enter) in xp)

now if you keep pressing it under windows 7 it shows the windows mobility center wich you can't control with it... you need a mice or the pen to change something....

  3. Default

actually i am amazed first of all that win7 as a rc offeres the handwriting training in englisch AND GERMAN!!! even vista ultimate didn't offer that... (just english even in the german version)
the writing recognition is MUCH better
WLAN works MUCH better i had to reconnect ever 5 minutes to the network of my university now its like every hour...
as far as the battery goes i don't see any improvement yet but that mght be coz my battery is a little scrambled (ihave to put it in the freezer for a night)
    @flos
danke für die info mit dem nvidia treiber werd das gleich mal ausprobieren es gibt nix nervigeres als in der Uni zu hocken und den pc neustarten zu müssen weil er nicht aufwacht...

    Rotation:
there is another workaround where you don't have to change anything in any .inf file:
    download and install irotate
    put it into autostart
assign the tablet button to CTRL+ALT+UP (left right down different for each primary and secondary view or however you like it i for example only need one primary and one secondary view/scape and therefore set it so they change back and for everytime i press the button)

    booting time improved alot
    everything runs...
    win7 is a sure buy!

By the way anyone got the Accelerometer to work ever since vista they seem to forget it

Another thing either i am way too stupid or i am doing something wrong I can't conect via bluetooth anymore i jsut to take pictures with my n95 cell (sort of a scanner if you will) and send them via bluetooth to the pc not the nokia tells me that it can not be sent. only infrored works which take a looooong time to transfer one mb

  4. Default Driver links?

Ok so maybe I am just dumb here but where is Toshiba 97.52 driver download? A link or simple instructions on obtaining this driver would work wonders. Google is just not finding it. Thanks! (Maybe a link for the sd card driver too)

  5. Default

thanks that driver worked for me too

  6. Default

I have spent several hours looking for that sd driver. Please post a link to it. Thanks so much.

I have everything else installed and mostly working. The tablet button next to the screen that has an 'x' and a rotating screen graphic next to it doesn't seem to do anything, but all the other buttons work, including the up/down/left/right scrolling stick.

  7. Default Windows 7 RC install doc

I started collecting information from various sources about installing windows 7 rc on the m200. visit h t tp://sites.google.com/site/sigmundsuggestions/articles/windows-7-rc-impressions

nvidia forceware 97.54 for windows vista 32bit driver seems to work for me . Rating, Gets a 1.0 on Aero and 2.4 on 3D

I can’t compare it with others as i haven’t tested any other than 97.54 and 97.52

  9. Thumbs up M200 and Windows 7 rc

I would really like to thank people here. The post by Flos really helped and everything including rotation is working well.

  10. Default

I am using nvidia forceware 97.54, 97.52 did not work for me (no rotation and black screen after sleep).
    · Sleep requires a change in brightness (the screen does not wake up, unless you change the brightness post wakeup, thus a possible plug-in-out of power).
    h**p://mobilepcwiki.com/mpc/index.php?title=Toshiba/M200/Windows_Vista_Installation_Notes
On this site is an easy workaround to automatic adjust brightness (not the vbs script), starting with :
    Code:
    powercfg -L

use Kernel-General also EventID 1 instead of Power-Troubleshooter
-> reactivation after inactivity induced standby also works now
I also encrypted the whole drive with Truecrypt, which runs on my 1,5Ghz pretty well, but I am still using the original 40 GB stock drive, which is a little bit slow. For faster harddrive the small CPU could be a bigger problem.

P.S.: Even so the automatic rotation is working, is there a way to rotate manually with one of the tablet buttons?

Update 2: Using a task for Kernel-General and Power-Troubleshooter works for me all the time now (with Nvidia 97.54).
I updated to Build 7137, which looks and feels the same (no real use to update). I donīt know if I missed the programm Flicks (mouse gesture) in RC1, even so itīs worth mentioning it.
