Try right clicking the network connection that appears in the system tray and choosing repair.
Have you tried a reboot?
Somehow, ok I plugged the RJ45 cable into a Switch/Hub and it changed all my previously working network connections...
Now I cannot connect at all, yet the wireless signal shows excellent explorer refuses to work....
(I have to preface this question with..... I'm a Mac guy at heart... so be gentle)
Thanks....

It could be related to XP's ability to have different network settings for different connections. Your wireless settings (IP vs DHCP, DNS, etc) can be different from your wired ethernet settings. IIRC, with XP you can even define alternative settings for each connection. My wired primary settings look for a DHCP server. If a DHCP server can't be found, it tries the secondary settings which are specific to my home network.
Check out the TCP/IP properties for your LAN connections from the control panel.
Did you ever get a fix for this. I am having the exact same problem. My wired connection works without a hitch, but the wireless wont work with any of the programs, it shows an IP and status strength etc, but when I open explorer. Its no go. This is really annoying, any help?
The settings for the two are the same (DHCP, no wep on wireless, etc).
Help I need to be wireless! I've been searching for a fix but no dice
