    Default Help TC1100 Wireless problems!

Hello I recently restored my TC1100 with the repair option on the stock restore CD's and reinstalled all the Drivers included in the second Drivers CD that HP sends you with the OS restore one. My wireless who was working before the problem that caused me to repair/restore is no longer connecting to any networks. It recognises de card as the HP A/B/G one and on the icon in the system tray it pops the message that there are networks to connect to. When I open the view available wireless networks to connect to one, the list is empty and says it cant find any I refresh the list and still doesnt find any. I have tried Unistalling the Drivers of the card and reinstalling it but the TC1100 always recognizes the card as the HP even tho I have manualy installed the intel drivers just in case its recognizing the wrong card it still reads it as the HP one. Other actions I have taken have been updating my critical updates on windows just in case it is a windows problem but to no avail and lastly I have tried two external USB wireless products that install correctly but end up having the same problem, a message in the system tray icon saying wireless networks found, and when one opens the window up to connect to one it says it cannot find any networks. Lasty it connect just fine thru the LAN cable and all Bluetooth devices connect to the computer to.

I recently purchased a TC1100 on eBay and had the same symptoms. Te system had a clean (unused) install on it that could habe been th eresult of a restore. It turned out that wi-fi was turned off in the BIOS. I've never had an O/S install change the BIOS but since the symptoms are the same it might be worth a look.

Thanks Cyber, Unfortunatly as I started up in BIOS the wireless card was "ON" in the status on the bios I did try turning it off and then on tosee if that worked but ALAS to no avail it still claims to have found networks on the system tray icon with no connection and when i open the icon to choose my network it simply states "No wireless networks were found in range" even tho am sitting next to my router and typing this on my other laptop connected bya wireless signal...

Make sure it is XP WIndow Wirelss which is managing the list and not HP utility.

If not, in the end it could be the wireless card is really faulty. I would recommend buying the Intel cards which are very cheap now.

I would uninstall ALL wireless drivers 1st, reboot with wireless card removed, reboot again with wireless card inserted (pull ALL power always before opening card slot) and let Windows discover new hardware and let it auto-install right driver. If it asks for driver, then direct only to driver matching card (i.e. HPW500 OR Intel) labeled.

HP 1100 will NOT work (fail to boot) without specific HP coded cards used. DO NOT buy just any Intel 2200 card, it MUST have HP coded enabled. Easily found on eBay for $25, just assume nothing unless stated for HP branded hardware.

For Intel, avoid the clunky Intel Pro Wireless driver/application suite. Just the basic driver and use XP or Vista's excellent wireless interface.

    Hello,

Did you find the solution ?

Because I have EXACTLY THE SAME problem and have tried many things without any solution...

This happened as I was reading a video through the Internet and Wifi access. Suddenly the TC1100 freezed and since that I was'nt able to connect any access point.

After that, when I enabled the radio, TC1100 freezed very often.

However, I haven't tried to put the old Intel BG1100 card.

Installing my Intel BG1100 card the Wifi access works again fine...

The HP W400/500 wireless card must be knock out :-(

However, I always have BG 2200 Wireless connection miniport in the network cards and it is impossible to uninstall it...

Have you solved your problem? I was having the same issues after swapping cards between two TC1100's. The one with the Intel 2200 wasn't getting any networks even though the wireless was on...It even had the proper drivers installed. Eventually after a lot of playing around I got it. I never removed the cards, just uninstalled the device and drivers, rebooted over and over until the found new hardware icon came up. I downloaded the drivers made sure wireless was enabled in the Qmenu and got it working.

I had a similar problem with the W500 in that the card wasn't turning on with the Qmenu. Similar reboots and driver uninstall/installs fixed it.

Just play around like I did, manually uninstalling drivers and try to get the found new hardware icon to show.

If you uninstall the driver for the 2200BG it will uninstall the hardware too.

The seller sent me back a new HP W500 and immediately it worked fine...

I think the previous one was really wrong.

But I always have BG2200 Wireless connection miniport in the network cards and it is impossible to uninstall it...

There is a message who says it would be necessary for the machine startup.

I have this same problem occasionally. Typically, a good restart works for me. Just FYI.
